alt text

(Best Syndication News) Tight budgets have put county supervisors at odds with fiscal realities and the use of funds.

Last week 1st District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt said he opposed public safety budget cuts. Now Supervisor Neil Derry opposes proposed cuts to staffing at the Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino. Joseph Turner, spokesperson for Derry, tells Best Syndication that the county plans to cut perimeter security positions at the mental hospital.

The hospital, which houses violent offenders including rapists, sexual predators and murderers, is adjacent to several elementary and middle schools. The California Wellness and Institution Code stipulates that no more than 1,336 inmates can be held in the institution, but today that number is approximately 1,700.

San Bernarndino County District Map

(Best Syndication News) - The Board of Supervisors has announced a website at www.sbcounty.gov/redistrict to inform San Bernardino County residents about the redistricting. At this website, residents can also make suggestions for how the map should be redrawn.

The reason for the redistricting is because of the latest US Census data. The districts should have around the same population in each district. The US Census completed in 2010, found the county had 2,035,210 residents. The Board of Supervisors said therefore, each district should have around 407,042 residents. Based on the US Census data there are discrepancies and the district borders need to be changed.

First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt said the project could help local businesses. “A bridge over the railroad tracks at Lenwood Road will spur further development of warehousing and distribution centers in Barstow and help attract much-needed, well-paying jobs,” Mitzelfelt tells Best Syndication.
