Board of Supervisors approve San Bernardino County’s Budget

(Best Syndication News) - The Board of Supervisors of San Bernardino County approved a $4.06 billion budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year this Friday. The county's fiscal year starts on July 1.

The 2012-2013 budget comes in $28.8 million less than the year before. The budget also sets aside $16.3 million for contingencies and reserves. The 2012-2013 budget also helps to avoid an anticipated $33.2 million shortfall.

Additionally, the Board of Supervisors saved $40.3 million with reductions in spending for new budget. Included in these savings are $11.8 million in cuts to department budgets, and cuts of $7.3 million in allocations to capital projects and an emergency radio system upgrade. Currently under negotiation with the labor union is $8.9 million in reductions.

San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to discuss Proposed Budget

(Best Syndication News) - The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors will be meeting on Friday to discuss the budget for Fiscal Year 2012-2013. Chair Josie Gonzales announced that the goal for tomorrow's agenda would be to close a multi-million dollar deficit.

The $4.06 billion proposed budget for 2012-2013 is anticipated to close a $33.2 million deficit.

Gonzales explained that last year the Board of Supervisors started a 5-year plan that would close the deficit. She points out that even though revenues have declined for the county, they have managed to meet their obligations while at the same time they are slowing their spending.

County to Move Date Palm Trees in Mentone for Intersection Improvement

(Best Syndication News) Residents of Mentone will need to make a detour to avoid the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Walnut Street. County officials say Fifth Avenue will be widened and a left-turn pocket will be added for traffic turning from Fifth to Walnut.

Workers will also install gutters and a curb. Fences will be moved and other upgrades will be made to improve water-flow and irrigation.

The County Public Works Department will help residents gain access to adjacent properties. All emergency vehicles will be able to access the area at all times while regular traffic will be routed around the construction.

County to Improve Roads in Phelan and Oak Hills

(Best Syndication News) Several road projects in the Oak Hills and Phelan area have been approved by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. Most of the improvements will involve safety-enhancements.

Andy Silva, a spokesman for First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt, says they will add a left-hand turn pocket on Escondido Avenue at El Centro Road in the Oak Hills area near Hesperia. This project is east of the 15 Freeway.

The county will also fix irrigation problems at the intersection by constructing a box culvert. This should improve drainage and provide extra safety for travelers of the route between Main Street and Ranchero Road.

Operation Desert Heat 2012 Hits Victor Valley

(Best Syndication News) The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has revived Operation Desert Heat to reduce gang activity in the High Desert. Deputies from the department will carry-out focused sweeps in Victorville, Hesperia, and Apple Valley to reduce crime.

Working with state parole agents and county probation officers, the Sheriff’s Department will be targeting parole violators and gang members. First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt contributed $100,000 from his discretionary funds to help sponsor the effort. Public officials have claimed that last year’s Desert Heat was a success.
