Hot and Cold Stocks - BKS and CRM higher in after hours while GPS and ARUN lower

(Best Syndication News) Most markets around the world were higher Thursday with some exceptions (see stock charts below). The dollar was flat and commodities were down, but stock prices were generally higher.

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) popped today after the Board of Directors disclosed a proposal from Liberty Media to buy the company. The market cap jumped from $850 million to $1.05 billion in after-hours trading.

The company said that the offer price was $17 per share in cash. The share price was up 13 cents (0.93%) to $14.11 during regular trading. In after hours the share price jumped $3.39 (24.03%) to $17.50.

Stock Market Today – SPLS and PETM drop while AAP and LTD advance – HP big loser

(Best Syndication News) Stock markets around the world advanced today with some individuals stocks declining (see stock charts below). All S&P sectors were higher with the exception of Utilities.

The share price of Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS) fell 3.02 (-15.37%) to $16.63. This was the biggest percentage drop in 11 years, but despite disappointing earnings figures the share price is rising in after hours.

PetSmart, Inc. (NASDAQ:PETM) released their earnings report today and the stock price fell 0.21 (-0.49%) to $42.49. The price began climbing again in after hours. The rise in first-quarter profits was better than expected. In afterhours the share price was up more than five percent.

(Best Syndication News) Stock markets were mixed Tuesday (see stock charts below). The Nasdaq gained while the Dow and S&P 500 fell. Economic news helped drive down share prices.

Dow Jones

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) index fell 68.79 points (-0.55%) to 12,479.58. Volume was 14.90 percent higher than the 100-day average and the range was 41.14 percent above normal (see Dow Technical Chart below).

The Dow did not break yesterday’s S1 support level.

Dow Jones

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index fell 47.38 points (-0.38%) to 12,548.37. Of the 30 Dow constituents, 21 of them were lower (see Dow Constituent Chart Below).

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was the biggest loser on the Dow Monday. The share price fell 46 cents (-1.84%) to $24.57. There are rumors that the company may be interested in buying Nokia’s phone business.

(Best Syndication News) Most markets around the world were lower Friday, with the Brazilian exchange hitting a 100-day low (see stock charts below).

Of the three major U.S. indexes, only the Nasdaq showed gains this week (see U.S. stock market chart below). The Dow is still up nine percent over the last 100 days.

The Federal Reserve will not extend their quantitative easing and will take a neutral stance, while some other central banks have even raised their interest rates. Some economists believe the QE has contributed to higher share prices. Good profits have also driven prices higher.
