Stock Market Today – Stocks in the United States Higher – CSCO CAT Big Losers IBM Winner

(Best Syndication News) Most stock markets around the world were lower Thursday but they advanced in the United States (see charts below). Markets in Asia were lower, with the Nikkei 225 falling 147 points (-1.5%) and the Hang Seng dropping 218.04 points (-0.94%).

Dow Jones

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index was up 65.89 points (+0.52%) to 12,695.92 Thursday (see U.S. Markets chart below). Of the 30 Dow constituents, nine of them were lower. Compare that to our broader index that includes the largest corporations around the world (BSNLG01). Of the 159 largest companies in the world, 141 were lower.

How will AT&T Merger with T-Mobile Affect Sprint

(Best Syndication News) Competitors aren’t the only ones eyeing the AT&T / T-Mobile merger with suspicion. Larger isn’t always better, according to some lawmakers.

AT&T is looking to buy T-Mobile for an estimated $39 billion. This could be a time of mergers and Sprint could be the next takeover target. Senators want more competition, not less.

At a Senate Judiciary Committee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights, Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) expressed concerns. “This acquisition would further consolidate an already concentrated market for wireless communication.” Leahy wants the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to look at the merger closely.

Stock Market Today – Some Advances by JNJ M and INTC but DIS disappoints – All sectors lower

Dow Jones

Of the 30 Dow constituents, only four were higher (see Dow Constituent List below). The index was down 130.33 points (-1.02%) to 12,630.03.

The Dow broke through yesterday’s S1 support level and nearly hit the S2 level. The 50-day moving average is 12,309.89 and we calculate the market as being volatile (see Dow Technical data below). Wednesday’s range and volume exceeded the 100-day average.

(Best Syndication News) Stocks were higher again Monday, up two straight days in the United States (see charts below).

Dow Jones

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index (INDEXDJX:.DJI) was up 45.94 points (+0.36%) to 12,684.68 (see U.S. market chart below). The Dow is still lower for the week, but higher for the month and 100-day period.

Of the 30 Dow constituents, ten of them were lower today. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was the biggest loser again today, with the share price dropping 0.49 (-2.11%) to $22.76. Alcoa Inc. (NYSE:AA) was the big winner trending higher again today. The share price of Alcoa was up 38 cents (+2.22%) to $17.53.

(Best Syndication News) Although stocks advanced today, they were still lower for the week (see stock market charts below). Most stock markets in East Asia were lower but they advanced in Europe and America.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDEXDJX:.DJI) was up 54.57 points (+0.43%) to 12,638.74 today. For the week, the Dow is down 1.34 percent, but it is still higher for the month and 100-day period. The index was down two days in a row and down three of the last five days.
