(Best Syndication News) Chicago IL - It's been a year since the Illinois Department of Natural Resources poisoned all the fish in Lincoln Park's South Pond to "restore" the water body into a "model Illinois freshwater habitat." Most of the world was watching the events a mile away in Grant Park as Barack Obama was named 44th President of the United States.

Tens of thousands of goldfish, koi, bass, crappie, catfish and sunfish/bluegill hybrids which inhabited the pond for 140 years suffocated and struggled to the surface after state "environmentalists" poisoned the water with Rotenone. Soon the lagoon sported a slick of shiny, golden and still moving fish like a macabre layered bar drink.

Clotheslines Are Back--and So Are Their Problems

(Best Syndication News) CHICAGO - The news that clotheslines are back as an environmentally conscious way to dry clothes is both good and bad.

Clotheslines have been glorified as an emblem of the good old days, especially in country and Western songs where Mom sings Amazing Grace while pinning socks. (Not my mom.) But in the real world they are a mixed blessing.

Sure, nothing beats the fragrant aura of sheets dried amidst pastoral breezes--but how about towels, assuming they even dry? Do they go in the linen closet--or in the garage as emergency sandpaper?

Even if agribusiness could shut Michael Pollan up, the outspoken author of Omnivore's Dilemma and a journalism professor at University of California, Berkeley, it still has the Los Angeles Times to contend with.

Last week, the Times blasted California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo for downgrading a scheduled Pollan lecture because it received pressure from David E. Wood, a university donor who happens to be chairman of the Harris Ranch Beef Co.

"Agribusiness gets plenty of opportunities to preach its point of view at agriculture schools such as Cal Poly, where the likes of Monsanto and Cargill fund research," the Times wrote, calling the 800-acre Harris Ranch, near Coalinga, whose "smell assaults passersby long before the panorama of thousands of cattle packed atop layers of their own manure,"--"Cowschwitz." Ouch.

The photo looks like John Travolta or Divine playing Edna Turnblad in Hairspray.

Under the bangs of a Dynel doll wig a "floozy" with nasolabial folds, male facial features and leathery skin mugs for the camera--coquettish hair bow, mod sunglasses and gaudy plastic jewelry adorning her "look." The only thing missing is a Miami Beach style cigarette holder.

"Lady, Your Anxiety Is Showing," is pasted across her nose to leave no doubt we are laughing at her. "Over a co-existing depression" is added in parentheses.

(Best Syndication News) Scratch that $11.2 million underground animal research facility the University of Iowa's interim vice president for research, Jordan Cohen is probably saying to his Board of Regents right about now.

A 35,000-square-foot underground vivarium where researchers could move mice, sheep, pigs, rabbits and primates without ever coming above ground made a lot of sense in 2004--when activists breached Iowa labs, opening cages and ruining research.

But it doesn't make a lot of sense when the enemy is, gulp one of one's own.
