Preparations underway for 79th Academy Awards Show – List of Presenters and Musical Performers for Oscar Night

Everyone in Hollywood is watching the rolling out of the red carpet in front of the Kodak Theatre as Sunday night will be the 79th annual Academy Awards Show. We can all watch the show live on television as Oscars are handed out to recognize this year’s best in the Movie Industry.

This year’s show will be hosted by Ellen DeGeneres. This is the first time that DeGeneres has hosted and appeared on the Academy Awards. She is a well known comedian that has a day time show called, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show." She has gained Emmy award recognition for her talk show by winning her third time for Outstanding Talk Show and her second time for Outstanding Talk Show Host.

(Best Syndication) The Nicolas Cage film “Ghost Rider” took top honors this weekend at the box office. It was the opening weekend for this comic-book adaptation of a motorcycle stunt driver who moonlights as a collector of evil souls for the devil. It grossed $44.5 million, according to early studio estimates.

The Marvel comic character, Johnny Blaze, gave up his own soul to become a hellblazing vigilante. This is a tale about how Blaze fights against the power-hungry Blackheart, the son of the devil himself.

(Best Syndication) The Eddy Murphy film “Norbit” reigned supreme at the box office over the weekend. The comedy about a regular guy and his obnoxious plus-size fiancée, both played by Murphy, took in $33.7 million from 3,136 locations.

“Norbit” beat-out Martin Lawrence's Big Momma's House ($25.7 million in 2000) and Big Momma's House 2 ($27.8 million in 2006), and even Murphy's original Nutty Professor ($25.4 million in 1996), where black comics put on latex padding to play obese women and men. Murphy is also up for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for is role in “Dreamgirls”.

The Sony Pictures movie “The Messengers” opened this weekend at number one. The horror film is about a child who begins to see ghosts. “The Messengers” plays on the theory that children are more susceptible to paranormal phenomena. They see what adults cannot.

The plot of the movie centers on an ominous darkness that invades a seemingly serene sunflower farm in North Dakota. The Solomon family becomes torn apart because of suspicion involving mayhem and murder. “The Messengers” took in $14.5 million.

The jury and audience award-winners of the 2007 Sundance Film Festival were announced Saturday night in Park City Utah. There were jury awards given out for both dramatic and documentary films in four competitive categories including Documentary Competition, Dramatic Competition, World Cinema Documentary Competition, and World Cinema Dramatic Competition.

These films were also eligible for the 2007 Sundance Film Festival Audience Awards. These awards were selected by the audiences at the film festival. “The films in this year’s program have opened up the possibilities of what independent film can be and will be in the future,” said Geoffrey Gilmore, Director of the Sundance Film Festival.
