Colonoscopy Useless For Reducing Right Side Colon Cancer – Better Preparation May Help – Polyps Different in Ascending Portion

See Better Diagram Below

(Best Syndication News) Colonoscopies don’t reduce the risk of death due to colon cancer in the right part of the colon, but they do significantly reduce the risk if the cancer is located on left side. The colon travels up the left side of the body from the anus and then traverses across and down the right side (ascending) of the body to the intestines (see diagram below).

The right side of the colon is responsible for absorbing water and electrolytes. The left section of the colon is responsible for preparing the stool for evacuation. According to cancer answers, more than 50 percent of the cancers are in rectum near the sigmoid. About 25 percent of the cancers are in the ascending portion, 15 percent are in the transverse portion and 10 percent in the descending portion of the colon. They say there has been a shift towards the right side over the past two decades.

If cancer is a possibility, it is your doctor’s responsibility to order the necessary tests to accurately and quickly diagnose your cancer. The faster your cancer is diagnosed, the more quickly you can begin treatment and increase your chance of survival. Here are some tests that should be run if you suspect cancer:

Skin cancer

If your doctor thinks you have melanoma, he or she should take a biopsy from the area around the melanoma and send it to a pathology lab for analysis. If your biopsy shows melanoma, you may need to have more tests, like another biopsy or a lymph node dissection to determine whether the cancer has spread to your lymph nodes.

Colon Cancer Gene Found – Scientists Begin To Understand The Link With Obesity

See Larger Image Below

(Best Syndication News) Researchers in the United States report that there is a link between a gene variation and colon cancer. It is hoped that a screening or diagnostic tool can be developed.

Previous studies have found that there is an association between obesity and colorectal cancer. If a person has a gene for a protein hormone that is secreted by fat cells he or she is at a reduced risk for colorectal cancer. The hormone, Adiponectin which is secreted by the fat tissue, is inversely proportional to obesity and high levels of insulin.

Study Finds Virtual Colonoscopy As Good As Gold Standard – How CT Scan Procedure Is Done

CT Equipment - See Videos Below

(Best Syndication News) New research suggests that computerized tomographic (CT) colonography, sometimes refereed to as a virtual colonoscopy, is as accurate as conventional colonoscopies when screening for colorectal cancers and pre-cancerous polyps (See Videos Below). Although the ordinary colonoscopy using an endoscope has been the gold standard, this new CT colonography allows doctors to visually see the colon in three dimensions.

The National CT Colonography Trial, conducted by American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN), indicates that CT could serve as an initial screening exam for colorectal cancer. The group hopes that more people will be tested using this less invasive method.

Psyllium husk is a white powdery substance taken as part of a daily colon cleansing program. It is obtained from the Psyllium plant, more specifically, the coating around the seed of the plant itself. Though these seeds can be used for other purposes, it is more commonly associated with colon cleansing regimens. It is functionally similar to fiber due to its make up of complex carbohydrate components.

The Psyllium husks are placed inside capsules. These are then used as dietary supplements during the colon cleansing procedure itself. In other forms, it is processed into a powdery substance for easy use. The benefits of P. husks are numerous. The main benefit is with regards to effective colon cleansing. It prevents instances of constipation as well as improving the overall health of the colon itself. It improves the bowel movements as the fiber located in the P. husk acts similarly to a laxative. Many laxative products contain a modest amount of P. husk.
