Chinese Drywall Problem – CPSC updates Repair Guide after new Corrosion Study Results

house construction - BSN

(Best Syndication News) - The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) have released an updated guide for fixing the problematic drywall that has caused corrosion and bad odors in homes. The government agencies have updated their remediation guide after the final study results came back from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The studies investigated the corrosion effects that might happen because of the problem drywall. The research involved testing for potential corrosion on gas components, fire sprinkler heads, and smoke alarms when exposed to the sulfur fumes.

With the new update guide, homeowners might be able to repair the home without as much expense as the previous guide had outlined. Because of the latest studies, the government agencies are no longer recommending the removal of gas service piping, glass bulb fire sprinkler heads. However, they do recommend that the gas distribution piping and the glass bulb sprinkler head be tested to make sure they are working properly. If there are any failures in this inspection process they may need to be repaired.
