An Inconvenient Truth DVD

If you haven’t seen the documentary called “An Inconvenient Truth,” you can buy the DVD or rent it at your local video store. Former Vice President of the US, Al Gore, has given up his political career and has become extremely passionate about letting everyone know about what is happening with global warming.

We have all felt the heat this past summer. The weather is getting warmer on average over the last 30 years. But most people have not been aware of the other changes in our environment and weather. Al Gore helped narrate the documentary to show what changes are occurring and some research that points to global warming as the cause.

Things we have to worry about are ocean water rising and possibly consuming coastal regions in our lifetime. In Alaska communities are being moved because of the erosion of the coast. It is costing the government around $100 million to move these Alaskan homes into dry land. This flooding could continue into our lower 48 states along the coast.

Environmental factors are overwhelmingly affecting the ocean’s capabilities to support the reproduction of seafood and scientists claim that there will be a collapse of all fished seafood by 2050. This study conducted by and international group of ecologists and economist was first reported in the November 3rd issue of Science.

The reason for this is that the ocean is being changed because species will not be able to resist disease, filter pollutants, they are over-fished, and the climatic temperature all with a dramatic time line happening by 2050.

"Whether we looked at tide pools or studies over the entire world's ocean, we saw the same picture emerging," said lead author Boris Worm of Dalhousie University. "In losing species we lose the productivity and stability of entire ecosystems. I was shocked and disturbed by how consistent these trends are - beyond anything we suspected."

Two major U.S.-based foundations have announced a grand scheme to rejuvenate Africa’s agriculture. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation will spend $150 million towards green revolutionizing Africa’s agriculture.

The program, according to a joint press release from the two foundations, “intends to improve agricultural development in Africa by addressing both farming and relevant economic issues, including soil fertility and irrigation, farmer management practices, and farmer access to markets and financing.”

There is no doubt that this initiative has come at an opportune time. Africa’s agriculture is near total collapse and requires urgent reengineering. Africa has been slow in embracing cutting edge agricultural technologies such as biotechnology that have transformed the economies of many developing countries such as India, South Africa, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and China.

It was later presented in media and to the Fire Inquiry that Thermografix was the ONLY one that saw the interface fire. Gary Filmon and the entire commission panel were speechless at the accurate visual information of the fire that hadn’t been available to fire fighters.
