(Best Syndication News) - An annular solar eclipse is going to be visible to huge populations this Sunday and Monday. In the Western United States, the solar eclipse is going to be visible at around 6 pm Pacific time on May 20, 2012. The solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Sun and Earth making the sun darkened in the middle with a glowing ring remaining. This is not a total solar eclipse. The last time a solar eclipse of this viewing magnitude occurred in the US was in 1994.

NASA explained that this event is an annular solar eclipse, which blocks up to 94 percent of the sun from Earth’s view. The event will be seen by hundreds of millions of people in Southeast Asia, and the western part of the United States. In North America, the solar eclipse will be visible at the end of the day. In Asia, the eclipse will occur in the early morning hours on Monday.

Honda unveils UNI-CUB - A Compact Two-Wheel Hands-Free Mobility Scooter

(Best Syndication News) - Today, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. unveiled a new personal mobility scooter that is called the UNI-CUB. The compact design of the UNI-CUB does not have handlebars for steering. Instead, the person shifts their weight to change directions to maneuver it. The rider can also drive the scooter using a touch-panel remote control with a device such as a Smartphone.

The UNI-CUB has the world’s first omni-directional driving wheel system (Honda Omni Traction Drive System) making it easy for the rider to move forward, backward, side-to-side and diagonally. Because the design is compact (measures 520 x 345 x 745 mm) it is easy for a person to move around other people. It has only two-wheels, the larger one is in the front, and a smaller one is in the back.

The scooter sits higher than traditional models, at 745 – 825 mm, making it easier to have eye contact with other pedestrians. The battery uses Lithium-ion and powers the scooter to a maximum speed of 6km/h. The distance the scooter could travel on a single charge is about 6 km.

(Best Syndication News) - NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory team members were out at Dumont Dunes in the Mojave Desert last week to practice using a test rover. The real rover is scheduled to land on Mars on August 5, 2012. This test run in California gave mission members a chance to improve their skills when the real one is deployed on Mars.

The real version of the rover on route to Mars is called Curiosity. The test rover was full-sized but stripped down so it would have similar weight compared to Mars lighter gravity. The mission members wanted to collect information on windward and downwind aspects of the dunes in the Mojave because on Mars there are dunes near a mountain located in the center of Gale Crater.

Supermoon this Saturday will be Brighter and Bigger

Full Moon - BSN

(Best Syndication News) - A supermoon is going to appear this Saturday, May 5, 2012. The nickname “supermoon” comes from the idea that the moon appears larger and brighter than it typically would because its elliptical orbit causes a closer path. The astronomical name is full moon at perigee.

Nasa estimates the moon to appear 14 percent larger and around 30 percent brighter than usual. Dr. James Garvin, chief scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center said that their Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter LRO mission is able to track the distance differences from the Earth and the Moon, and there really is not much difference.
