St Louis Cardinals Win Game Three of World Series – Chris Carpenter and Braden Looper Pitch A Combined Three Hitter

Carpenter

The St. Louis Cardinals lead the World Series two games to one, after a great performance by Card pitcher Chris Carpenter, who suffered a mild spasm but continued to play. Neither a chilly evening nor a spasm in his hand could stop Carpenter from beating off Detroit Tiger batters.

When Tiger pitcher Kenny Rogers’ name was announced before the game, Cardinal fans chanted “cheater”, but the fans gave Carpenter a standing ovation when he came out to bat in the eighth inning. The Cardinals brought relief pitcher Braden Looper in for the ninth ending.

Loooper and Carpenter threw for a combined three-hitter. "Go one pitch at a time," Carpenter said later. "All that stuff around you that‘s going on doesn‘t get in your head, so you‘re not even thinking about it."

I thought you might be curious to see what the Yankees have done since they sbegan as a mojor league team. I will get to that in a second.

From 1919 to 1964 The New York Yankees had a winning season every year except 1925. Their two best years were 1939 of DiMaggio and Dickey when they were 106-45, a 702 winning percentage. Even better the Yankees of 1927 had a 714 winning percentage. Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig had something to do with that. The Yankees have scored 79,003 runs since they have been a major league team. They have surrendered 68,192 runs.
