56 People in Cambodia Died from Unknown Illness – Majority are Children under Three Years of Age

(Best Syndication News) - The World Health Organization (WHO) reported an undiagnosed syndrome that killed 56 children in Cambodia. The majority of the children were under the age of three. The Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia is investigating the cause of the illness.

The initial investigation found 74 cases of the suspected outbreak between April and July 5, 2012. Within these cases, 57 of the infected had symptoms of a fever, respiratory problems, and neurological issues. Fifty-six people died who had these symptoms.

The infected were determined not to have H5N1, other flu viruses, SARS, or Nipah.

The majority of the cases reported were from the Kantha Bopha Children’s hospital in Phnom Penh.

Containment expected this evening for Cabazon Wildland Fire

The Riverside County Fire Department along with CAL Fire announced this morning that the fire stopped spreading and it is expected to be fully contained by 6 pm today. The voluntary evacuation orders have been canceled.

Board of Supervisors approve San Bernardino County’s Budget

(Best Syndication News) - The Board of Supervisors of San Bernardino County approved a $4.06 billion budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year this Friday. The county's fiscal year starts on July 1.

The 2012-2013 budget comes in $28.8 million less than the year before. The budget also sets aside $16.3 million for contingencies and reserves. The 2012-2013 budget also helps to avoid an anticipated $33.2 million shortfall.

Additionally, the Board of Supervisors saved $40.3 million with reductions in spending for new budget. Included in these savings are $11.8 million in cuts to department budgets, and cuts of $7.3 million in allocations to capital projects and an emergency radio system upgrade. Currently under negotiation with the labor union is $8.9 million in reductions.

6.0 Magnitude Earthquake in Northern Italy causes Death and Damage

(Best Syndication News) - A 6.0 magnitude earthquake shook in Northern Italy near the city of Bologna today causing death and widespread damage of buildings. The event occurred Sunday May 20, 2012 at 4:03 am local time reported the US Geological Survey.

The location of the epicenter of the earthquake was estimated at 44.800°N, 11.192°E with a depth of 3.2 miles. Damage reports close to the epicenter was reported by USGS with it being moderate to heavy damage and the shaking was considered very strong to severe. The earthquake was felt throughout most of Northern Italy.

Aftershocks have been ongoing throughout the day. There has been two 5.1 magnitude tremors and several more tremors above the 4.0 magnitude rating.

California Governor Brown proposes $8.3 Billion in Budget Cuts and wants to Increase Income and Sales Tax

(Best Syndication News) - The budget deficit in California has reached $15.7 billion, which has prompted Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. to release a budget revision that would cut $8.3 billion in spending.

Brown said that he wants to protect spending for education and public safety. Education spending would increase from $29.3 billion in last year's budget to $34.0 billion by the end of 2013. He is asking for a 16 percent increase in K-12 education spending, but voters must approve of this increase.
