New England is out, but not without a great game for the AFC title. The Indianapolis Colts beat the New England Patriots 38-34 in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. Peyton Manning drew out the best in the colts for an 80-yard drive to win the game, after being 18 points down in the second quarter.

In two weeks Indianapolis will charge at the great defense of the Chicago Bears, who also won this weekend. The Bears smashed the New Orleans Saints 39-14. This was the first time ever that the Saints made it to the NFC conference game. They are also the only team to make it after losing 13 games the year before.

The University of Southern California (USC) beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl New Years day 32-18. Eighth ranked USC stomped Michigan which was ranked number 3. Dwayne Jarrett caught 11 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

USC coach Pete Carroll called the win "A very powerful statement for our program." Michigan coach Lloyd Carr said "I said going into this game, USC is the best defensive team we've played, and there's no doubt in my mind that they are.”

The Philadelphia Eagles pounded the Dallas Cowboys Christmas day to take control of the NFC East. The Eagles rushed for over 200 yards while their defense captured three turnovers. This was the Eagles fourth straight win and secured at least a wild-card berth.

If Philadelphia beats Atlanta next Sunday or Dallas loses its final game against Detroit, the Eagles clinch the division for the fifth time in six years. The final score was 23-7.

In a nail-biter game, the Jets beat Miami 13-10 Christmas Day. This moved the Jets closer to a playoff berth. Leon Washington ran 64-yards on a screen pass to set up Mike Nugent's winning field goal with 10 seconds on the clock.

The San Diego Chargers clinched the AFC West title Sunday with a win over Denver. The Chargers have won the last seven games in a row, which is the longest streak in the league. They lead the league in scoring, thanks in large part to LaDainian Tomlinson who broke the NFL record for touchdowns in a season, 29, with three against the Broncos Sunday.

The Charger defense team are no slackers either. They lead the league in sacks, including four against Denver. The Chargers beat the Broncos 48 to 20.

The Lakers beat the San Antonio Spurs 106 to 99. Kobe Bryant called it a “big win” while Luke Walton said that “tonight we finally put a game together”. Kobe Bryant had 34 points and eight rebounds and Lamar Odom just missed a triple-double.

The San Diego Chargers beat the Denver Broncos Sunday while LaDainian Tomlinson scored four times and reached 100 touchdowns faster than any player in NFL history. But if that record was not enough, there were more broken. The Chargers became the first NFL team to win four straight games after trailing by 17 or more points and the first to win four straight when allowing at least 24 points in each game.

Tomlinson told reporters “Resilient bunch of guys. Our team, we’re never out of it, and I think this is a very special team because no matter what happens, no matter how much we’re down, we’re never out of the football game.”
