We all know that a healthy lifestyle cannot exist without adequate exercise. Qigong is one of the best kinds of exercises because it can provide both a gentle as well as a thorough workout.

Also important, there have been a growing number of studies on qigong (a.k.a. chi kung) and its benefit in the treatment and prevention of high blood pressure, as well as other cardiovascular diseases.

Qigong is not just about exercise: Although it seems that today's modern qigong is just another new age fad on exercise, traditionally, qigong practitioners viewed qigong as a way of life that incorporated so much more: diet, exercise, herbs and Chinese medicine — in fact, everything that worked towards total health and well being.

So the qigong practices I mention in these and other articles are not the modern qigong of merely exercise and belonging to a new age fan club, but of the traditional practice of preventive and holistic alternative health. Water cleanses the body of toxins and provides much needed oxygen. We know we are supposed to drink at least six to ten glasses of water per day, but what kind of water?

Researchers from Queensland University of Technology collaborated with the University of Leeds in the UK and found that people lose weight at different rates. The results of their study were published in the current issue of the International Journal of Obesity.

One reason the researchers suggest might be the reason for the variation of weight loss is their “compensatory responses.” Some people might have more hunger after exercising and eat more food while other have an excuse that they deserved a reward for working out.

Abdominal exercises for women and men are a hot topic these days. TV and magazines are full of ads promoting the benefits of for ab exercise machines. They promise to have your abs looking like those of the model in the ad “with just a few minutes a day”.

But do they provide the best abdominal exercise and do they really deliver on their claims?

Popular Mechanics recently ran a feature article that examined some of the more popular models you can order. They tried out seven different machines for a period of two months and came up with some revealing results.
