    Admongo Online Game to Help kids learn about Advertising Gimmicks

    [Best Syndication News] The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has released a free online game along with teaching tools to educate kids between the ages of 8 through 12 (the tween years) about how ads market to them and how to be a smart consumer.

    The goal is to teach these kids about who is responsible for the advertisements, what the ads are saying to them, and what ads are trying to get their target market to do. The FTC is calling their idea as to “ad-ucate” the kids about advertising.

    The free online game is at Admongo.gov. The website allows children to make an avatar they go through four levels in the game. The Atrium is to help the kids look for ads that are around them. The assemblimator looks at the advertisements to determine the claims and to see how they are trying to persuade them into buying something. The Planadtarium looks at how the ads are targeted to a group of consumers. The last level is The Adgitator where they get to put together their own ads.

    Toy Recall – Step2 Basic Rhythms Drum for Preschool Age Child

    Step2® Recalls Basic Rhythms Drum™

    [Best Syndication News] A toy recall was issued by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada in cooperation with Step2 company. The Basic Rhythms Drum preschool toy has been recalled because of a potential choking hazard.

    The drumsticks that are attached to the drum can break and the broken pieces could become a choking hazard to a young child. There have not been any injuries reported relating to this toy recall.

    There was approximately 21,000 units sold at Toys “R” Us and Burlington Coat Factory from August 2009 through March 2010. The Basic Rhythm Drums sold for around $10 - $15.

    If you own the toy drum that is being recalled, they are asking you to take the toy away from your child and contact Step2 to request a replacement toy. You can contact the company at www.step2.com or call toll-free at (866)860-1887 between 8 a.m., and 6 p.m., ET Monday through Friday.

    Gund Baby Book with attached Rattles being Recalled for Potential Choking Hazard

    [Best Syndication News] The US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada are announcing the voluntary recall of Gund Baby Paperboard Books. The books binding can come loose making it possible for the Styrofoam to detach and become a choking hazard.

    There has been three reports of the you children and infants that had them mouthing the Styrofoam, but luckily no injuries have been reported.

    There was around 15,100 books sold in the US and 865 sold in Canada. They were sold nationwide from January 2009 through March 2010 for $8 each or $20 for a set of books. Three paperboard books with plastic handles meant to be used as a baby rattle. The books are titled “Animals”, “Numbers”, and “Colors.” On the back of the books they have the name Gund and the one of the following item numbers, 059174, 059175, 059176, 059173.

    NASA Hubble Space Telescope Book documents 20 years of Discoveries

    Hubble: A Journey Through Space and Time - Edward Weiler

    [Best Syndication News] NASA announced the completion and release of the book called “Hubble: A Journey Through Space and Time.” This new book was published to celebrate 20 years that the telescope has been taking photos out in space. The book publisher is Abrams and will be any space enthusiasts ultimate book that covers images taken by the Hubble telescope. The book documents the 20 most important scientific discoveries that came from the hubble telescopes long journey in space.

    The book's images were picked by NASA astronomers and will showcase stars being born and dying, how galaxies collide and come back together. There will be commentaries included by notable scientists and veteran astronauts that had worked on the telescope during their space mission.

    The book measures 11.9 x 9.8 x 0.8 and has 144 pages. There are 100 classic Hubble images that were chosen to appear in this book. The author is Edward J. Weiler who is an astrophysicist and a leading scientist at NASA. He was the Chief Scientist of the Hubble Space Telescope from 1979 through 1998.
