The great thing about audiobooks is that they can fit into the wasted time in people’s lives, the times when you’re doing other things. So you can be entertained while you’re waiting for a bus or doing the laundry, working on the computer or just chilling out. With audiobooks you can enjoy TV sit-coms and comedy shows, perhaps ones you know very well or shows you didn’t experience the first time round but have heard people raving about.

One such treat is the madcap duo Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, who wowed audiences in the 1960s and 1970s with their madcap brilliance. This nutty pair are known to many as ‘Pete and Dud’ who were actually two characters they played. Cook and Moore were responsible for some of the funniest, most surreal and inventive comedy material ever recorded.

(Best Syndication) A new study contradicts an earlier study and suggests that sex education may indeed reduce teen sex and delay intercourse. Lead author, Trisha Mueller says that earlier study could have been flawed because they used data from 1970 through 1990.

The new study involved 2,019 teenagers ages 15 to 19 years, who responded to a 2002 national survey. They found that males who attended sex education classes were 71 percent less likely to have sexual intercourse before age 15. Among females that number was 59 percent. As a group, the risk for African American females was reduced by 91 percent.

(Best Syndication) Phelan – The Snowline School District has been making great progress with academic performance. Tuesday night, First District San Bernardino County Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt (See Video Below) presented a plaque in recognition of their achievement.

The Snowline Academic Performance Index (API) for 2007 was 778. This is the highest score in High Desert and third highest in the whole of San Bernardino County. Only a couple districts down the hill beat our local district, but not by much, according to Mitzelfelt. I was given the text of Brad’s talking points by his assistant, Michael Orme. A video presentation will follow. Here is the complete text:

School Board Meeting

(Best Syndication) On October 23rd we video recorded the Snowline School District board meeting. At the previous meeting on October 9th, parents raised concerns about the opt-out forms for military recruitment. There were conflicting regulations between state and federal authorities.

The federal "No Child Left Behind Act" requires schools to provide parents and guardians a form to opt-out for military recruitment of their children. The state education code says that you can opt out of all disclosures, but not just one item.

In the future parents will need to write in "Opt-out for military only", or something to that effect. Otherwise, the parents will be opting out of everyting from sharing transcripts with colleges and employers. The school board says they will not, or can not, notify parents in the future (in writing) of this change. See the video below for more details.
