(Best Syndication News) Researchers in the United States say that Ibuprofen is no better at preventing Alzheimer’s disease than other Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs), including aspirin. Previously some doctors and scientists believed that drugs containing the substance (like Advil and Motrin) could stave-off Alzheimer’s disease better than aspirin.

Researchers from Maryland and California conducted a meta-study of previous clinical trials to determine if Ibupropin was any better. They evaluated data studies involving 13,499 people without dementia. Over the course of these six NSAID studies, 820 participants developed Alzheimer's disease.

(Best Syndication) Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia affecting 24 million people worldwide. It is most prevalent in American’s over the age of 65, but can begin years earlier. The cause of the disease is not certain, but it is believed to be associated with plaques and tangles in the brain.

Causes

There may be a genetic predisposition to AD, but only 5 to 10 percent of AD cases can be shown to have a clear familial pattern. These cases usually have a link to early onset of the disease (before the age of 60).

Materials for encouraging reorientation and relearning are easy to find and need not be expensive. Of basic importance is the structuring of the patient's primary living space (e.g., the bedroom or the sitting room). Furniture and accessories should be kept neat and tidy, and in the same basic order. Ideally, the room should have a window, whereby the patient can tell the time of day and the weather.

A large clock (preferably with a lighted dial) and a calendar should be visible. The patient should be encouraged to wear and use a watch that contains a date feature. Stimulating materials should be readily available for the patient, such as current newspapers, magazines, a radio, and a television.

Senile plaques

(Best Syndication) Scientists have found a link between sugar and Alzheimer’s disease. It was already known that obesity and diabetes were risk factors for the disease, but new research indicates that the consumption of sugar may be a separate risk factor.

Over a 24 week period, researchers compared mice with a balanced diet with animals with sugar added to their water (a 10% mixture). They compared metabolism, memory skills and the brains of the two mouse groups. The sugar fed mice gained about 17% more weight than controls and developed insulin resistance.
