(Best Syndication News) Exercise may help prevent advanced Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in people with early stages, according to new research from the United States. Mild Alzheimer’s patients with “lower physical fitness” had smaller brains than their “higher physical fitness” counterparts.

Although there was no difference in patients without the disease, there was a noticeable difference in Alzheimer’s patients. Study author Jeffrey M. Burns, MD, of the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City said “People with early Alzheimer’s disease who were less physically fit had four times more brain shrinkage when compared to normal older adults than those who were more physically fit, suggesting less brain shrinkage related to the Alzheimer's disease process in those with higher fitness levels.”

The patients also had lower than normal muscle strength and shorter aerobic capacity, leading researchers to believe that patients will benefit from an exercise program.

The researchers in Finland did their research on postmenopausal women because they are more likely to experience the condition than other women or men. The exact cause of fibromyalgia is not known, but some people are believed to be genetically predisposed to the condition. Symptoms include fatigue and pain and the disorder is generally perceived as non-progressive.

[Best Syndication] A new study has found that vitamin D has long-term effects on reducing inflammation which could help slow the aging process. The study was first published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

The study was of 2,100 female twin pairs ranging in age from 19 – 79. The study focused on measuring genetics and found that the higher the vitamin D levels, the better the genes measured for lifelong aging and chronic stress. The genetic marked measured is called leukocyte telomere length (LTL). The more vitamin D levels the longer the LTL. The telomere length was a 5 year difference compared to those with the highest levels of vitamin D to those with the lowest levels.

Other studies have shown that when telomeres were shortened there was an increased risk for heart disease. This could be because of the chronic inflammation and is considered one key feature in the aging process.
