(Best Syndication News) - There seems to be a day to commemorate everything – including donuts. June 1, 2012 is National Donut Day. What does this mean? This might mean a free donut at some retailers around the country. Every first Friday of June has been designated as National Donut Day. Donuts is also spelled as doughnuts, but either way they are a popular treat.

The National Donut Day goes back to 1938, when the The Salvation Army in Chicago did a fundraiser with the bakery food. The donuts were the chosen product because of the successful reception of treats that were given out to military men in World War I by Salvation Army volunteers. The Salvation Army still celebrates National Donut Day in areas by handing out donuts and coffee on this day.

On Tuesday, animal service officers set traps at Frances E. Willard Intermediate School and El Sol Science and Arts Academy to catch the stray cats. The traps were provided by O.C.
