[Best Syndication] The cargo ship that crashed into Bay Bridge in San Francisco has spurred a criminal investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The crash of the ship caused an oil leak into the water which has killed wildlife and has stained the beaches which further threatens the Dungeness crab industry.

There has been a federal investigation that has been questioning crew members of the ship that crashed. This is a normal procedure where they release them after questioning.

There has been investigators that have been looking into this crash. In addition to this there has been volunteers, and over 40 local, state and federal agencies that were at work on Sunday to help clean up the oil spill. The oil spill is the worst in nearly two decades with over 58,000 gallons that have leaked into the water.

(Best Syndication) Although the wind subsided Thursday, the fires in San Diego County are still threatening homes (See Map Below). The huge 200,000 acre “Witch Fire” is 30 percent contained, but not before the fire consumed 645 homes, 30 commercial properties, and 50 outbuildings. There are nine major wild-fires still burning in San Southern California, and this is a compliation of various agency reports.

In total, the San Diego fires burned 1,400 homes. There are an estimated 8,500 homes still at risk. NBC News reported that there are 7 deaths attributed to the southern California fires. President Bush visited a firefighter base in Escondido Thursday and promised Federal help where needed. The US Forest Service estimates that the cost of the fire to be $5.3 million.

San Bernardino Fires Out Of Control But Today Optimism Prevails – Running Springs Slide and Green Valley Arrowhead Blazes

San Bernardino Fires Out Of Control But Today Optimism Prevails – Running Springs Slide and Green Valley Arrowhead Blazes

See Map Below

(Best Syndication) There are still two very large fires burning in the San Bernardino Mountains near Lake Arrowhead and Running Springs (See Map below). There appears to be a new outbreak of fire south of the “Grass Valley Fire” closer to Lake Gregory; but the good news is that this fire is not as big of a problem as the “Slide Fire”.

I spoke to Chris Stich with the Forest Service at around 4:30 PM on Thursday. He told me that the “Slide Fire” is much more worrisome than the “Grass Valley Fire”. “The Grass Valley Fire is not going anywhere and is 40 percent contained,” Chris said. It has only burned 1,100 acres compared to the “Slide Fire” which burned 11,000 acres. These figures were from estimates earlier today, and may have change. Chris said the wind could change and the fire could begin to travel in the opposite direction (north).
