Hotmail now offers 2 GB of storage for free, coming closer to Google’s 2.6 GB. This is a significant upgrade for Microsoft because they had been offering only 1 GB of storage. Although Yahoo limits their free service to 1 GB of disk space, they are expected to offer unlimited space this month. Their email service is free as well, but may not work perfectly with all browsers including Firefox.

(Best Syndication) On Thursday Microsoft announced record profits primarily related to technology guarantee programs for Windows Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office release. Revenue for the quarter ending March 31st 2007 was $14.40 billion. This is a 32% increase over the same period last year.

The company says their success has a lot to do with their new products. Kevin Turner, chief operating officer at Microsoft said “This quarter marked the consumer launches of Windows Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office system, and we are delighted with the positive customer response these products have received.”

(Best Syndication) Microsoft announced Thursday that they will allow people to download their new Windows Server codenamed “Longhorn”. The new edition is in Beta 3 testing right now and the final version is on track for release to manufacturing in the second half of 2007.

The company says that Longhorn has improved reliability and is more secure than Windows Server 2003. “As they take it for a test drive, our customers and partners will find we made some vast improvements in Windows Server ‘Longhorn’ to help them reduce costs and adapt to changing business needs,” said Bill Laing, general manager of the Windows Server Division at Microsoft.

(Best Syndication) The most popular social networking site, MySpace, has entered the news business Thursday launching their our version of news aggregation. Unlike Google News which uses a computer generated algorithm to set story ranking, or Yahoo that uses human editors, MySpace will allow the community to rank the news.

According to the Alexa ranking system, MySpace is ranked number five in the world for Internet traffic. The only sites that receive more traffic are Yahoo, Google, MSN and YouTube.

Although MySpace will operate similar to Digg with users determining popularity of a news story, MySpace will aggregate news similar to Google and Yahoo. The company will also include blogs as news sources.
