[Best Syndication] Microsoft displayed their new plug-in called Silverlight at the National Association of Broadcaster (NAB) tradeshow in Las Vegas. NAB is running from April 14th through the 19th and focuses on all that is happening in the audio and video broadcasting industry.

Silverlight is a plug-in that will work on both Mac and PC compatible Web browsers. It is similar to Adobe Flash and is much better than Apple’s QuickTime.

In order to implement Silverlight into a website there is a toolkit called Expression Media that will help to deploy the content. Expression Media is comparable to Adobe’s Creative Suite 3 software. You can download a preview of Expression Media on Microsoft.com. Expression Media won’t be shipping until sometime in June.

(Best Syndication) Researchers in the United Kingdom say that the Mass Extinction Event (MEE) that wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago did not prompt the rapid rise of the mammals on earth today. This contradicts accepted theory, and the researchers say that mammals began to “radiate” out about the time of a sudden increase in the temperature of the planet.

The temperature increase did not occur until ten million years after the extinction of the dinosaurs (the MEE). Today’s mammal ancestors were still not well evolved at that time. Professor Andy Purvis from Imperial College London's Division of Biology explains: "Our research has shown that for the first 10 or 15 million years after the dinosaurs were wiped out, present day mammals kept a very low profile, while these other types of mammals were running the show.”

DownLoad HD Movie In One Second - IBM Unveils 160 Gigabit per Second Optical Chip Set At Anaheim Fiber Optic Conference

Smaller Than Dime

(Best Syndication) Anaheim CA - IBM scientists announced a prototype optical transceiver chipset at the 2007 Optical Fiber Conference in Anaheim California on Monday. The new chipset is capable of reaching speeds at least eight times faster than the optical components available today, according to the company.

The chipset will move information at a rate of 160 Gigabits per second (or 160 billion bits of information in a single second). This breakthrough technology may allow for a lightning fast one second download of a high definition feature-length film. Compare this to 30 minutes or longer with current technology.

Optical technology uses light pulses rather than electrons. The idea is to combine this technology with fiber-optic cable technology to provide a “new era of high-speed connectivity that will transform communications, computing and entertainment.”

Apple TV

Technology is merging into multimedia center points and Apple TV is just another example of connecting the computer, internet, and television together. Apple TV is now shipping and it will make it more attractive and for people to watch internet downloaded movies, listen to music and look at you digital photos on your TV set. Apple describes their new product Apple TV as a DVD player of the future.

One thing that I can say about technology is that if it isn’t intuitive it won’t be used, and this time I think Apple TV is addressing a problem with people watching movies and videos on the internet. It just didn’t make sense at all to download a mega huge movie rental off the internet when you would have less stress going down to rent the video from your local video rental store.

(Best Syndication) There are unconfirmed rumors concerning a new Google Phone. The Spanish Newspaper Noticias says that Isabel Aguilera, General Director of Google in Spain, confirmed that the company was working with “others” to develop a Google mobile phone.

Google has not confirmed this report, but Reuters reports that Google spokeswoman Erin Fors said on Friday, "Mobile is an important area for Google. We remain focused on creating applications and establishing and growing partnerships with industry leaders to develop innovative services for users worldwide. However, we have nothing further to announce."

Best Syndication has not been able to confirm the report, but Eric Auchard of Reuters says there are leaks from Europe and the United States which describe a low-cost, Internet-connected phone with a color, wide-screen design.
