Despite what some of the cosmetics companies are now trying to tell people, you cannot use an oil free moisturizer on your skin and expect it to be effective. Your skin needs natural oils, because the oil derived from plants bears the closest resemblance to the sebum that the sebaceous glands produce. They provide your skin with antioxidants, and essential nutrients such as omega fatty acids.

There is no reason that the products that you use should not have natural oils in them. These new moisturizers are marketed as being superior for people that suffer from oily or combination skin, but to be honest with you having oily skin is not natural. By that I mean that the sebaceous glands do not simply over produce oil for no good reason, so there has to be something that is causing it.

Everyone wants to be able to use a non pore clogging moisturizer on their skin, but there aren’t too many of them available. There are a lot of formulas out there that feature only the petroleum based moisturizers. The manufacturers of these products have spent a ton of money promoting these compounds as effective and not damaging to your skin, but the truth is that neither of these claims is true.

Mineral oil, paraffin wax, and petrolatum are all derived from a byproduct of the petroleum process, which is so incredibly dense that it regularly causes machinery to break down. This substance is consequently taken and put through a distillation process in order to extract the “lighter” oils from it. This process can only break these compounds down so much though.

The best moisturizer for very dry skin is one that contains rich plant based oils, waxes, and extracts, but these types of formulas are not so easy to find. The majority of the cosmetics companies will tell you that best moisturizer oil for your skin is something totally different than the ones I am talking about, and they can only be considered as natural based on a technicality.

What they want to convince you of is that the best moisturizer for very dry skin is one of the petroleum based compounds that they love to use. The reason that I said it is just a technicality that they are considered natural is that they are a natural byproduct of a man-made process. The nucleus of these “moisturizers” is produced during the crude oil process used to render the oil into gasoline.

If you are in the market to add a little color to your skin this season, tanning beds are NOT what the doctor ordered. Tanning beds have become a popular way for many busy individuals to obtain an even and all over tan without having to spend their days basking in the sun. However, what these individuals likely are not aware of is that they are in fact tanning their skin’s health away. Most tanning beds release very high and dangerous levels of ultraviolet radiation. Indoor tanning booths and beds commonly use ultraviolet bulbs that emit predominantly UV-A rays.

Unfortunately, UV-A rays penetrate deeply into the skin and can negatively affect the cells involved in the body’s immune system. The bottom line is that each and every individual interested in developing a tan via indoor tanning beds needs to have a full understanding of the known dangers and numerous risks associated with this practice so that they can make an informed and educated decision.

The use of honey as moisturizer has been an effective treatment since the Roman era, but it seems to be catching on again after a bit of a lull. This is good in some ways, because the use of the right type of honey on the skin can do wonders for you. The problem is that most people believe that all honey is alike, and so they don’t understand that there are some varieties that offer far more than others.

For example, all varieties of honey possess antioxidant properties, and all of them have healing properties to a certain extent. This is due to special enzymes in these honeys that give them antibacterial and antifungal properties. In a rare few varieties the level of antifungal and antibacterial strength far exceeds that which is considered normal, and active Manuka honey is among these.
