Watch out For Dentists who Overcharge!!

PayDay Loan Interest Rate Comparison For January 2009

My husband and I have saved over $7,000 in dental work charges this past year, just by being informed consumers! We have dental insurance through his employer that costs $1,100 per year which we pay for through payroll deductions. We chose our Dental Plan carefully based on the very low "Patient Co-pay Fee Schedule."

However, much to our shock, after visiting four different dental offices this year, we have found that they all have the same dubious practice of trying to overcharge us beyond our "Patient Co-Pay Fee Schedule," seemingly hoping that we are stupid enough not to check with our insurance company and will pay their inflated charges.

For example, I was recently told that I needed two new crowns, and also two crown build ups due to " cracking and leaking". The office billing clerk quoted me $500 per crown, and $250 per crown buildup to a total of $1500. Consulting my benefit chart, I found that my actual co-pay should have been $270. Just by consulting my benefit chart, I saved $1,230 !

Dental Inlays and Onlays

If you have a damaged or decaying tooth toward the back of your mouth, your dentist may recommend a dental inlay or onlay.

In general, a dental inlay is comparable to a normal cavity filling, only it is custom-fitted and cemented within the indented “bumps” (called cusps) of a tooth’s primary chewing surface.

A dental onlay is larger than a normal filling but smaller than a http://www.willowdental.com/services/crown.htm dental crown and completely covers one or more of those chewing surface cusps. In many cases, when a dentist opts to place an inlay or onlay, it is to save the tooth before it becomes a bigger problem that needs more extensive care, like http://www.willowdental.com/services/root_canal.htm root canal therapy and a permanent crown.

Porcelain Veneers & Cavities

Providing an instant smile restoration, porcelain veneers are the shining star in the cosmetic dentistry universe. However, just because there is a ceramic sheet protecting your teeth and hiding their imperfections does not mean that your teeth are now immune from future decay.

Benefits of Veneers

Porcelain veneers can address numerous cosmetic issues in your smile, such as:

• Discolored enamel
• Cracked, chipped, crooked or fractured teeth
• Gaps between teeth

While these are all important cosmetic benefits, http://www.valleycosmeticdentist.com/porcelain-veneers.html porcelain veneers also act as a barrier between tooth enamel and staining agents such as sugary foods, chocolate, tobacco products, or dark beverages such as coffee, tea, or wine. However, even though the ceramic material that porcelain veneers are made of is resistant to decay, the teeth behind are still vulnerable.

Maintaining Your Dental Implants

Dental implants are an ideal solution if you are missing a tooth. Unlike dentures and partial dentures, dental implants look and function just like you normal teeth. They are anchored directly to your jawbone, just like natural teeth, and must be cared for like natural teeth. These restorations need to be cleaned regularly, as their long-term success depends on how well you maintain your dental implants.

Proper care

Because dental visits are essential, you should work with your implant dentist to develop a regular visitation program to meet your individual needs and to ensure the optimum health of your restorations and surrounding natural teeth.

If your gums and teeth are not properly cleaned and flossed, http://www.drwendling.com/periodontics.html periodontal disease can develop. If this condition is left alone, the result can be weakened supporting structures and tooth loss in addition to the loss of your dental implants.
