Comedian Phyllis Diller dead at age 95 - Comedy Career took off when she was 38 Years Old

(Best Syndication News) - Comedian Phyllis Diller passed away today at the age of 95 in Los Angeles, California. Her outlandish costumes and hairstyles, along with her comedy, made her a household name in the 1960’s and beyond. Diller had many plastic surgery procedures, which she would often joke about during her comedy skits.

Diller was born in Lima, Ohio on July 17, 1917. Her name at birth was Phyllis Ada Driver. In college she studied piano at the Sherwood Music Conservatory in Chicago, Illinois. Then she transferred to Bluffton College in Ohio. Diller did not feel that she was good enough to give it a go as a professional pianist.

Astronaut Sally Ride dies at age 61

(Best Syndication News) - Sally Ride died at her home in San Diego this Monday after battling pancreatic cancer for the last 17-months. Ride was the first US woman astronaut to travel into space. She travelled twice on the Challenger; the first time was on June 18, 1983 and a second time was October 5, 1984.

Ride was born in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley on May 26, 1951. Growing up in Encino, she loved Science and later studied Physics and English at Stanford University.

She was almost finished with her Ph.D. in physics when she saw an ad looking to hire astronauts. This was the first time that NASA was recruiting astronauts that were not just military test pilots. There were over 8,000 applicants and only 35 people were chosen. Ride was picked along with 5 other women and 29 men to take part in the 1978 astronaut class.

Science Fiction Author Ray Bradbury Died

(Best Syndication News) - Famous science fiction author, Ray Bradbury, passed away on June 5, 2012 in Los Angeles. He was 91 years old. Several reports said that he succumbed to death after a lengthy illness.

Bradbury’s most noted books include The Martian Chronicles, Fahrenheit 451, and Something Wicked This Way Comes.

Bradbury was born on August 22, 1920 in Waukegan, Illinois. His family relocated to the Los Angeles area when he was 14 years old. He wanted to become an actor when he grew up. After graduating high school, he sold newspapers and worked on becoming a writer. In 1941, he got his first short story, "Pendulum," published in Super Science Stories. His writing career took off from there as he became a full-time writer by the end of 1942 with the magazine.

Davy Jones from the Monkees dead at 66

(Best Syndication News) - The singer from the Monkees group, Davvy Jones, passed away this Wednesday after suffering a heart attack in Florida. He was 66 years old.

The Monkees was formed in 1966 with four members – Davvy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork. The Monkees continued to be a hit into the 1970’s. Some of the songs that the Monkees made into hit recordings were “Daydream Believer,” “Last Train to Clarksville,” and “I’m a Believer.”

The Monkees was a fictional band that got their start on a TV show, "The Monkees," that aired between September 1966 to March 1968. The theme song is still popular with the baby boomer generation. The TV show was a hit and the Monkees toured as a real band. Davy Jones reunited with the Monkees to tour twice, once in 1986-89 and again in 1996-97.

Whitney Houston Dead at 48 - Cause of Death Unknown

(Best Syndication News) - Singer and actress, Whitney Houston, died on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 3:55 pm PT after paremedics were unable to revive her when members of her entourage found her unresponsive at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Houston was scheduled to perform at Clive Davis's pre-Grammy party that was being held at the hotel later in that day.

The cause of Houston’s death is currently unknown; however, it is not believed to be foul play. Houston struggled with drug addiction in the past, and many wonder if she had been intoxicated.
