Dennis Hopper Dying From Cancer – Honored With Star On Hollywood Walk of Fame

(Best Syndication News) Besides his appearance in 161 movies, video games and documentaries, Dennis Hopper is known for his painting, sculpting and photography (see list of films below). He made his first appearance in the 1955 film “Rebel Without A Cause” but may be best known for playing the tough-guy in “Easy Rider” (1969) and the reporter in “Apocalypse Now” (1979).

The 73-year old Hopper was present today at the unveiling of his Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but he was noticeable thinner and in a wheel chair. In October it was revealed that he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. The cancer had metastasized and spread to his bones. Yesterday his attorney said he was dying from the cancer.

Alex Chilton Dead At 59 From An Apparent Heart Attack – Box Tops Singer For The Letter

(Best Syndication News) Singer, songwriter and musician Alex Chilton died in New Orleans after complaining of chest pains. On Wednesday he was taken to the hospital where he subsequently died from an apparent heart attack.

Chilton is best known as a singer for the 1967 Box Tops hit “The Letter” (see the video below), which at age 16 he led the group to the top of the charts (see the videos below). They went on to have a few more hits including "Cry Like a Baby" (1968) and "Soul Deep" (1969). With songs written by Penn, Moman, Spooner Oldham among others the group saw success. Oldham wrote “Cry Like a Baby” and “I’m Your Puppet”.

Merlin Olsen dies of Mesothelioma Complications

[Best Syndication News] Merlin Olsen died at the age of 69 after suffering from Mesothelioma cancer which is a deadly disease of the lungs. Olsen had a successful NFL football career and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1982. He continued to work as a football commentator for NBC. Olsen also acted on the 1980's TV series, “Little House on the Prairie.” He also starred in the TV show, “Father Murphy.”

Merlin Olsen was born on September 15, 1940 in Logden, UT. His wife is Susan Wakely who they have 3 children together. Olsen was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2009.

Malignant Mesothelioma damages the protective lining of the several organs. Most commonly the lungs are damaged by the disease. It is believed to be caused by being exposed to asbestos and can take years to the condition to develop, which can be anywhere from 20 – 50 years.

Woman in US lived to 114 years Old – Who is the Oldest Person to Ever Live

[Best Syndication News] A woman passed away today that lived to be 114 years old, and is believed that she was the oldest living person in the United States. Her names is Mary Josephine Ray and she lived in New Hampshire. According to the local newspaper, New Hampshire Union leader she passed away early today at the Maplewood County Nursing Home located in Westmoreland.

The oldest person to ever live in the world was recorded as Jeanne Calment from France who was born in 1875 and died in 1997 living a total of 122 years and 164 days.

The oldest person to ever live in the United States that has been verified was Sarah Knauss who lived to 119 years and 97 days. She was born in 1880 and died in 1999.

Alexander Haig Dies From Staphylococcal Infection

(Best Syndication News) Former Secretary of State Alexander M. Haig Jr. died today from complications of a staphylococcal infection. He was 85 years old.

On Friday doctors at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore told reporters that Haig was admitted to the hospital and was in critical condition.

Haig was a Korean and Vietnam War veteran receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart during his tour in Vietnam. Later he was promoted to Colonel, and brigade commander of the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam.
