(Best Syndication) There are still two major fires burning in the San Bernardino Mountains on Wednesday, and according to Bob Romano with the US Forest Service, there is no estimated time for lifting the evacuation orders. He did tell me at 6PM that the “Grass Valley Fire” near Arrowhead is 30 percent contained.

The “Grass Valley Fire” is the smaller of the two fires. So far this blaze has consumed at least 100 homes (lost or damaged) and 1,000 acres have been burned. There is no estimation of when this fire will be extinguished, but the Forest Service will be updating their information soon. Firefighters are working both the Twin Peaks area and the Arrowhead area.

Snowline School District Meeting in Phelan For Military Opt-Out For Military Recruitment - No Child Left Behind Act

Snowline School District Meeting in Phelan For Military Opt-Out For Military Recruitment - No Child Left Behind Act

School Board Meeting

(Best Syndication) On October 23rd we video recorded the Snowline School District board meeting. At the previous meeting on October 9th, parents raised concerns about the opt-out forms for military recruitment. There were conflicting regulations between state and federal authorities.

The federal "No Child Left Behind Act" requires schools to provide parents and guardians a form to opt-out for military recruitment of their children. The state education code says that you can opt out of all disclosures, but not just one item.

In the future parents will need to write in "Opt-out for military only", or something to that effect. Otherwise, the parents will be opting out of everyting from sharing transcripts with colleges and employers. The school board says they will not, or can not, notify parents in the future (in writing) of this change. See the video below for more details.
