April Phelan MAC Meeting – New Sheriff For Pinon Hills and Phelan Areas

(Best Syndication) Local residents of Phelan and Pinon Hills were able to meet the new Phelan Substation commander, Sergeant Robert Copley, at the Phelan Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) meeting in Phelan. It was announced that Sergeant Jim Morgan had retired and Sergeant Robert Copley will be taking his place. Copley said that Morgan “all of a sudden” left after 27 years because of another “offer”.

Copley has been assigned from the Victor Valley station to Phelan. He told us that he had wanted this post for the past 10 year. When Copley said he is due to retire in August, the audience broke out in laughter. He said he will try to “take it on and give it another three more years.” He said “We will see”.

(Best Syndication) Field Representative for County Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt, John Richardson, was at the April 12th Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) meeting. Richardson said that preparations for the Community Service District (CSD) are on schedule. Richardson told the council that there should not be any eminent domain issues concerning the proposed 395 Freeway and the CSD.

Richardson handed out an inter-office memo dated April 11th from Jim Oravets of Special Districts which included information about tentative projects including a tract (18094) at Ranchero Road and Topaz Avenue with Baldy Mesa Road by Calico Homes. This project was 29 2.5 acre lots.

(Best Syndication) Thursday night Charles Johnson told the Phelan Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) that the Community Service District (CSD) has passed some hurdles and will be on the November ballot. He will meeting with 1st District Country Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt on Friday and there will be a public meeting Saturday morning at 8 am at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) hall on the corner of Johnson and Nielson Roads.

Johnson said that the County Board of Supervisors had approved the CSD application back on August 22nd 2006. Last week the CSD received a Environmental Repot negative mitigation. The negative is a good thing, according to Johnson. The only issue that needed mitigation was the tax money.

(Best Syndication) The last speaker at the April 5th Pinon Hills Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) Meeting was Cal Trans Representative Dennis Green. He told those in attendance that the Highway 138 project is on schedule and may even be ahead of schedule.

Shoulder work between Beekley and the LA county line is taking place, and the widening project for the West Cajon Pass is taking place and that portion of the road will be closed for most of the summer. Dennis Green went on to talk about the signaling projects for the highway.

The funds are available for a signal at Highway 138 and the 2. In fact, Green said that conduit has already been laid. He said that there may even be an acceleration of that intersection project. This will mean that the poles for the stop lights will be brought on site ahead of schedule.

(Best Syndication) The High Desert Mavericks lost to the Visalia Oaks in the last inning of the game last night. The loss goes to Don Sullivan (0-1) who allowed five runs in the bottom of the eleventh inning. The Oak’s Dan Pohlman (1-0) got the win pitching two shutout innings in relief.

The Pinon Hills Elementary students were honored with Outstanding Student Awards sponsored by Argosy University. Things went downhill after the opening ceremonies. The winds were blasting and the temperature dropped below 50 degrees as the Mavericks took a 4-2 lead into the top of the ninth inning, with three of the runs coming with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.
