[Best Syndication News] President Obama signed into law an unemployment extension which will restore benefits to many that were losing them. Unemployment benefits began to run out for over 400,000 people on April 5th because congress went on Spring break before finalizing the legislation.

The unemployment extension will cost the government approximately $18 billion to provide financial assistance through June 2nd, 2010. The new legislation will also cover an extension through May for COBRA, Medicare, and national flood insurance.

Senator Tom Coburn who is a Republican from Oklahoma initially stalled the bill with a filibuster by voting against an emergency approval for the extension. The reason was that he wanted to go throught the budgeting process that is traditionally done. Because of the delay the bill was put on hold while the senators went on Spring break. During this time unemployment benefits started to run out.
