Fentanyl Patch exposure to Children can be deadly

(Best Syndication News) - The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning patients, caregivers, and medical professionals of the dangers of children being exposed to fentanyl transdermal patches, because they could die from an overdose. The safety alert was issued by the FDA to make sure that patients use, store, and dispose the patches in a safe place away from children.

Since 1997, twenty-six reports of accidental exposure to fentanyl have been reported, according to Zachary A. Oleszczuk, PharmD, in FDA’s Division of Medication Error Prevention and Analysis. The majority of the cases involved children under the age of two. Out of these cases, 10 have died and 12 needed hospitalization.

(Best Syndication News) - A recent study funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that overweight or obese people with type 2 diabetes improved the outcome of mobility when they lost weight and increased physical fitness. The study came from the Look AHEAD (Action for Health in Diabetes) trial based on the four-year results. The findings were published in the March 29, 2012 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

Lead author Jack Rejeski, Ph.D, Thurman D. Kitchin Professor of Health and Exercise Science at Wake Forest University, explained that this study demonstrates how important losing weight and increasing physical activity is to treat mobility problems with aging people with type 2 diabetes.

Infant Tylenol Recall for Consumer Problems using New Dosing System

(Best Syndication News) - McNeil Consumer Healthcare recalled around 574,000 bottles of 1 ounce sized grape flavored Infant Tylenol Oral Suspension medicine because of consumer complaints using the product’s “SimpleMeasure” dosing system. Seven lots of the over-the-counter product are involved in the recall and were distributed nationwide.

A protective flow restrictor could become pushed in when the syringe is inserted into the measuring system.

The company is recommending that consumers who have a flow restrictor that is pushed into the bottle to stop using it. If the flow restrictor is working fine Tylenol has prepared instructions on how to properly use the dosing system.

Reduce Risk of Osteoporosis Fractures by Exercising in early 20’s

(Best Syndication News) - Exercise as a young adult to reduce the risk for fractures caused by osteoporosis later on in life, concluded a study conducted in Sweden.

The University of Gothenburg's Sahlgrenska Academy researchers studied 833 Swedish men to determine that exercise in the early twenties helped to promote bone growth. Previous research concluded that the more bone mass people accumulate when young, the lower the risk for fractures from osteoporosis when they are older. In addition, other research has found that exercise before and during puberty is beneficial in making bones stronger.

Excedrin Recall - NoDoz, Bufferin, and Gax-X Prevention Products also Recalled

(Best Syndication News) - Novartis Consumer Health Inc. announced the recall of certain lots and packages of their products including Excedrin, Bufferin, NoDoz, and Gas-X Prevention. Additionally, the FDA announced a safety advisory for prescription medications produced by Novartis for another company.

The voluntary precautionary recall was announced after consumers complained about chipped and broken pills and concerns about the possibility of mixed tablets from other products. No adverse events were reported to the company prior to the recall announcement.
