Missing Russian Cargo Ship Found off of Cape Verde Islands

[Best Syndication News] The mysterious disappearance of a Russian Cargo ship named The Arctic Sea, was reported to have been found off of the coast of Africa near the Cape Verde Islands.

The Cape Verde coastguard was reported by CNN as observing where the ship is heading, while the French defence ministry was reported to have found the ship at 520 miles off of the islands.

The ships management company said that they were not aware that the ship has been located.

The Artic Sea was boarded by hijackers off of the coast of Sweden late in July and they reported this, but then the last that was heard from the ship was when they were in the English Channel.

[Best Syndication News] A Russian cargo ship called the Arctic Sea, was carrying timber has disappeared with a mysterious group of men boarding and attacking the crew off the coast of Sweden. However the ship was expected to dock at a port in Algeria on August 4th, and now a week later, there still is no ship.

The last they heard from the ship's captain was on July 28th when they announced who they where, what they were carrying, and where they are going. This was a standard procedure that the British maritime authorities have as it is a busy shipping area through the English Channel.

The Arctic Sea cargo ship had a group of 10 men board the ship on July 24th off of the coast of the Swedish Island, Oland. The ship crew was told by the masked men that they were police officers and tied up the men. They Swedish police told the media newswire that they hadn't been out searching ships in that area. The crew had told that Swedish police investigator that the men left the ship after 12 hours and in a high-speed inflatable boat.

Tour de France Update - Spain's Luis Leon Sanchez wins 8th Stage of Race

[Best Syndication News] The winner of the eighth stage of the Tour de France this Saturday was Spain's Luis Leon Sanchez. This portion of the bicycle race was from Andorra to St. Girons and was 109.6 miles in distance.

Finishing in third place for this stretch of the race was United States favorite, seven-time champion Lance Armstrong, winning the Tour de France in 1999 and each year following through 2006.

Pope Benedict's “Charity in Truth” Letter focuses on World Economy and the Environment

[Best Syndication News] Pope Benedict XVI released his writings on social welfare and reform for the economy and the world in the “Charity in Truth” encyclical this Tuesday. In the 144 page document, he discusses the environment, globalization, and corporate and business ethics.

The Pope released the “Charity in Truth” encyclical letter which points out the growing separation between the rich and the poor. He wrote, “Financiers must rediscover the genuinely ethical foundation of their activity, so as not to abuse the sophisticated instruments which can serve to betray the interests of savers. Right intention, transparency, and the search for positive results are mutually compatible and must never be detached from one another.”

This document was released just before the Group of 8 industrialized nations summit meeting which will be held in Italy on Wednesday.

Swine Flu Pandemic Alert Raised to a 5 – One dead in the US

[Best Syndication News] The Swine Flu is causing the World Health Organization (WHO) to upgrade the threat of a pandemic from the H1N1 virus to a level 5. Dr. Margaret Chan, the Director-General of the organization upped the seriousness of the swine flu pandemic alert from a 4 to a 5.

Chan said that at this stage all countries should activate their pandemic preparedness plans, which includes increased surveillance, early discovery and treatment of suspected cases and controlling the infection from spreading at health facilities.

As of 11:00 A.M. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced that for April 29th, there are a total of 91 confirmed cases of people infected with the swine flu. The break down is, New York with 51 cases, Texas has 16 with on death, California with 14. Kansas, Massachusetts and Michigan each have 2 cases of the infection. Indiana, Nevada, Ohio, and Arizona are reporting only 1 case of the virus.
