The FDA was
requested by the U.S. Attorney’s Office from Pennsylvania for assistance
in seizing ATF Fitness Products, Inc.’s Lipodrene inventory. The
dietary supplement contains ephedrine alkaloids and is harmful to the
heart.
The U.S. Marshalls
were sent to the company headquarters in Oakmont, Pennsylvania to stop
the distribution of the Lipodrene by seizing five boxes worth
approximately $16,000.
Each daily dose of
Lipodrene contains 50 mg of ephedrine alkaloids. On April 12th,
2004, the FDA announced that it is prohibiting the distribution of
ephedrine alkaloid containing supplements. The ATF Fitness Products,
Inc. was in violation of this rule. The FDA made this rule because
ephedrine alkaloids are stimulants that can pose dangerous effects on
the heart. Studies of ephedrine alkaloids show that it raises blood
pressure and will stress the circulatory system which puts a person at a
higher risk for having a heart attack or stroke.
There are many
websites selling Lipodrene as a weight loss solution. You need to be
careful taking any diet supplements. You may have high blood pressure
or other cardiovascular problems that make taking ephedrine alkaloid
diet supplements dangerous. Other diet supplements are available
for losing weight.
