Oprah Winfrey aired a show which first aired on February 14th, 2005.  She started a boot camp with some of the people that she worked with the help of Bob Greene’s Total Body Makeover in 12 weeks.

You need to “own the number”, which means that what you weigh is your responsibility and you shouldn’t lie to yourself about it and ignore your weight.  She also had the volunteers from her work sign a contract with themselves that said they will work at losing weight.  They agree to eat consciously at each meal, and eat breakfast every morning.  You also will not eat 3 hours before bedtime.  Oprah wanted to limit alcohol consumption, where Bob Greene wants no alcohol consumption for the 12 week period of time. 


You should eat foods that are lean protein.  Eat only two fruits a day and unlimited amounts of green vegetables.  Oprah says that you need to stay away from refined carbs such as white bread, sugar, cakes, and pastries.  You need to avoid fats.  For the first 30 days on the diet do not eat any whole grains.  Add the whole grains in slowly after this time period.  You also need to drink 8 ounces of water six times a day.

Part of the plan includes exercising on a daily basis with one day off each week.  Oprah took her volunteers to the gym and hopped on the treadmill.  She recommended increasing the incline of the treadmill versus just increasing the speed.  The participants were working up a sweat trying to keep up with her!  Oprah also includes weight lifting into her routine and also includes pilates in her routine.  Oprah demonstrated how to use pilate equipment.


She showed people that have worked on Bob Greene’s program and following simple changes that added up to big results.  All of the success stories that lost huge sums of weight exercised often and built up to more and more time.  As their health improved they were able to do more exercise and they lost the weight.  They also made healthy food choices.  The weight was lost over a period of time, and if you have a lot of weight to lose it can take many months to lose the fat 

Oprah stressed how important the decision that was made by the people that were successful at losing weight.  This decision was the secret to their success.  Bob Greene most important rule is to cut your food off 2 – 3 hours before bedtime.  Oprah sets a specific time each night that she does not eat anymore food.  Bob Greene said that this will help considerably to lose weight.


She finished the show with a fashion show of exercise clothing and gave away some fitness gear for the audience members.  Oprah said that you need to use a pedometer to count 10,000 foot steps each and every day.  Measuring your footsteps will get you moving.  She invites you to go to her website at oprah.com to join here online boot camp to start on your way to losing weight.
