This is the first
time that an automobile manufacturer has won both the best car and
truck of the year awards in the same year. Motor Trend magazine’s
2006 Truck of the Year award was given to Honda’s Ridgeline Truck.
The Motor Trend’s Car of the Year award for 2006 was the Honda
Civic.
The Ridgeline
truck was first introduced in March of 2005, and is a mid-size
truck. It is a 4 door pickup that has received the 5 star safety
rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
This is the first time a 4 door truck has been given this safety
recognition. It also is has the recognition of having the best
rating for a rollover resistance of any pickup ever tested by the
NHTSA.
The Ridgeline
truck comes with many built in safety features including standard
anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake Assist. It also has Vehicle
Stability Assist with Traction Control, advanced dual-stage,
dual-threshold driver's and front passenger's Supplemental Restraint
System (SRS) airbags, driver's and front passenger's side airbags
(passenger side with Occupant Protection Detection System), two-row
side curtain airbags with rollover sensor, and a tire pressure
monitoring system.
The Ridgeline
standard features of this model include a 247 horsepower VTEC V-6
engine, 5-speed electronically-controlled automatic transmission,
four-wheel drive, air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, power
windows and door locks, cruise control, keyless entry, heated window
wipers, and a 6 speaker 100 watt stereo system with CD player. It
has under seat storage, a 5 foot cargo bed with dent resistant
composite. There are six heavy duty tie-down cleats and an in-bed
lockable trunk.
The Honda Civic
Sedan was the winner of the 2006 Motor Trend Car of the year. Honda
has reinvented the Honda Civic with the 2006 model by making a new
aerodynamic exterior. The interior has wider more comfortable
seating. The dashboard has satellite mapping and voice recognition.
There is an MP3 auxiliary input jack built in and a digital card
reader for listening to music.
The Honda Civic
also has improved on the engine and has achieved a clean burning
engine and has attained an Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle (ULEV) rating
in all 50 states. The fuel economy is rated at 40 mpg for highway
driving and 30 mpg for city driving.
The Honda Civic
has extensive safety features built in which includes, active head
restraints, daytime running lights, anti-lock braking system, and
dual-stage, duel threshold front airbags. There are also side
curtain airbags with passenger-side occupant position detection
system, outboard lower anchors and tethers for children, and side
impact door beams.
Hondas
manufacturer list price on the Ridgeline truck starts at $27,700 and
the Civic starts at $14,560.
