Google has launched a new search specifically to search US government
websites. It helps by filtering out other extension, but still includes
all government related sites.
Google Government Search will include all website that have .gov
extension. Other extension that will be included are.mil along with
select government sites that are with the .com, .us, and .edu. For
instance the United States Postal Service has a .com extension and would
therefore be included.
There is also a landing page for the Google Government Search which has
limited customization at this time. It will let you get the top
government related news from Google News as well as from the Washington
Post. There is also a customizable weather forecast where you can pick
multiple locations for a 4 day forecast along with the current
temperature reading.
The location of the Government Google Search is at usgov.google.com.
Google will be adding Google Gadget support for the new government
search page in the near future to allow users to further customize their
personal page.
Being able to search the government website will make it easier to find
the location and information that is made available the US government.
This can be helpful when you are trying to locate your DMV for
instance, or that particular form that you need to fill out. It will
reduce the time trying to locate the website for that particular agency.
You can also check out firstgov.gov as a place to search for government
information. It is also a collection of government websites that will
let you search all government websites. I like the information that is
presented on this page; however it can become difficult to navigate
sometimes.
