Fox network
had out ranked NBC’s Winter Olympics with “American Idol”.
Preliminary figures from Nielsen Media Research said that “American
Idol” averaged 26.3 million viewers this past Tuesday. Only 16
million people watched the Winter Games on NBC during the same hour.
The age group
of 18 to 49 is the target group that advertisers love and “American
Idol” delivers the most to this age group. Last week when the
Olympics were not on air they had 30 million viewers.
It could be
possible that people are not as motivated to watch this years Winter
Olympics because it is in Italy. Having the Olympics in North
America may fire people up more about the games.
“American
Idol” is in its fifth season and is still entertaining the masses.
Kelly Clarkson, the first season winner, has gone on to win two
Grammy awards. One Grammy is for Best Pop Vocal Album and the other
for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Clarkson’s album “Breakaway”
with the popular hit “Since U Been Gone” is the reason for the wins.
“American
Idol” gives many singer hopefuls a chance at a music career that is
often so difficult to achieve. The show also helps find talent
that may otherwise have been overlooked by the music industry.
