Christopher Reeve’s widow, Dana Reeve, Dies at age 44 of Lung Cancer

Dana Reeve
died on Monday at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Medical Center of
lung cancer at age 44. She was married to Christopher Reeve who was
well known as playing Superman in the 1980’s movies. Christopher
Reeve was paralyzed in a horse back riding accident in 1996 and had
died on October 10th, 2004.
Dana Reeve
along with Christopher Reeve spent much of there time to help find
possible cures for paralysis and founded the Christopher Reeve
Foundation. Dana was a chairwoman of the Christopher Reeve
Foundation.
She also
founded the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center.
The foundation has donated $55 million for research grants and $7.5
million for paralyzed patients with quality of life grants. She has
also served on the boards of TechHealth and The Reeve-Irvine Center
for Spinal Cord Research. She was an advisory board member with the
National Family Caregivers Association.
She first
announced that she had lung cancer back in August of 2005. She said
that she had never smoked. She leaves behind a teenage son, Will,
and two stepchildren, Matthew and Alexandra.
She has acted
in a TV shows and movies including, “The Brooke Ellison Story”, "Law
& Order: Criminal Intent", "Oz", "Feds", "Law & Order", “Above
Suspicion”. She has also appeared as herself to help in the
awareness of paralysis, and also to discuss her husband. She has
also acted in theatre productions and has served on boards of The
Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Shakespeare Theatre of New
Jersey.
