If you have TiVo service directly with TiVo (sorry DirecTV DVR doesn’t
work) you can benefit by using the internet to automatically have your
TiVo be programmed remotely for recording shows.
TiVo is a popular way to record television. What is good about TiVo is
that you can pick your television shows and movies to record for you and
you can watch them when you have a chance. You can rewind live TV and
even pause it so you don’t miss anything. TiVo records the television
to a hard drive making it easy to navigate through multiple recordings.
If programming times change TiVo knows to record the show at a different
time. While VCR’s have programming features it does not offer many of
the features of TiVo.
TiVo is great if you hate to watch commercials on television, you can
fast forward through them. You also have a complete listing of
television shows and this makes it easier to find television programming
that would be of interest to you.
Navigating by your remote control can be frustrating at times when you
are browsing the list. If you are looking through the guide you might
find that if you have a lot you want to set up to record you might like
the feature of programming your TiVo online.
You can program you TiVo by going to their website or you can sign up
with Yahoo! to configure it into part of MyYahoo!. You need to have a
series 2 TiVo recorder which will allow you to record two channels at
the same time. The online scheduling is set up for the series 2
recorders. If you go onto tivo.com you will see online scheduling on
the left side of the menu bar.
You will need to sign up and create an account with TiVo. They will
confirm you are the owner of the equipment by sending a message directly
to your TiVo. You will then confirm the referenced information. Once
you have set this up you will be able to log into their online schedule
and be able to pick and chose which programs you want to be recorded
while you are browsing online. TIVO will automatically update your
requests for you in your equipment and you never had to use the remote
to set up the recording.
Unfortunately the built in TiVo on DirectTV does not support this
feature at this time. You can however log into DirecTV’s website and
search and browse the schedule listed on their website. You can then
program the shows from your remote control.
You might want to checkout tvguide.com for listings as well you can
specify your area and whether you have cable or satellite TV. They
offer a good set of recommendations and descriptions are well presented.
