Superstition is
reining supreme for June 6th, 2006 (666) there is also a
remake of the 1976 movie “The Omen” being released on this day.
In the King James
Version the Bible versus from Revelation 13:16-18 says the following:
“16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and
bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or
the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is
wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast:
for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore
and six.”
According to
Phillips Stevens, Jr., Ph.D. who is an associate professor of
anthropology from the University of Buffalo said that people
misunderstand the 666 mentioned in the Bible.
"Revelation is a
complex and confusing book, and is rarely read closely by lay people.
Biblical scholars have pointed out that there are several 'beasts,' in
chapter 13 and elsewhere, and they all refer variously to Rome, Roman
emperors and Roman cults of god -- and emperor-worship," Stevens said.
Stevens suggests
that “Revelation” was written in code by the author John of Patmos who
is believed to be St. John the Apostle. The symbols, elements, events,
people, and institutions were things that were familiar to first century
Christians.
"The mark of the
beast, 666, signifies those in thrall to the emperor and thus opposed to
Christianity, and is most probably the numerical equivalent of the
Hebrew letters for Nero," Stevens said.
"Many perceived
enemies of Christianity have been labeled the Antichrist, and Nero was
one of the first," Stevens said, "a long string of mostly historical
figures -- Saladin was on the list, as was Hitler, and Saddam Hussein.
The list varies according to who compiles it. Early Reformation-era
Protestants had some popes on their list." There is an every changing
list of Antichrists, Stevens added.
People have gone
out of their way to avoid the number 666. U.S. highways have been
renamed. President Ronal Reagan had his house number in Bel Air,
California changed because it contained 666 in the address.
Stevens mentions
that people will go so far at to create theories currently out on the
barcode system and financial institution with the relationship to the
number 666.

"They believe the
sinister number 666 is encoded in our nation's banking system, in our
medical and governmental records, and in our very identity, in personal
documents and in UPC bar codes –- this latter is evidence of the
fulfillment of Revelation prophecy," he said.
On each and every
bar code the numbers 666 is included. The 666 is hidden in the barcode,
however the theory also includes the concern of the implantable identity
chip that will force people to have installed in their hand or forehead
in order to purchase items as part of the prophecy. The barcode is
necessary in order to sell items as well. With the “need” for better
identification we might get a barcode installed in us as well as part of
the “beast.” The theory is believed that the founder of the UPC barcode
put 666 in the system because his first, middle, and last name all have
six characters.
According to a
comment posted on Rense.com a person posted a reply the following of an
interview saying that is was from the founder of the UPC barcode
system. ““I quote from George J. Laurer, founder of the UPC (as above)
"There is nothing sinister about this nor does it have anything to do
with the Bible's "mark of the beast" (The New Testament, The Revelation,
Chapter 13, paragraph 18). It is simply a coincidence like the fact that
my first, middle, and last name all have 6 letters. There is no
connection with an international money code either.””
So maybe there is
something more than just a 666 tattooed on the forehead in the bible
prophecy. It is enough to give anyone a good scare and with the remake
of “The Omen” coming out on this superstitious unlucky day will it
become the next big blockbuster? “The Omen” was scary the first time
around, with today’s special effects it should be a good scare.
