Everyone knew Mel Gibson was going to apologize. Any of us that have
ever had “too many” know we can say and do things we would otherwise
normally not do - that is assuming the actor had too many. The apology
came in the form of a lengthy statement issued Saturday.
The award winning actor apologized for the "despicable" things he said
to the deputies when he was arrested for suspicion of driving under the
influence of alcohol. TMZ broke the story yesterday when they reported
Gibson as saying anti-Semitic remarks and cursing uncontrollably.
Gibson called his behavior “belligerent”. The actor said “The arresting
officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was
apprehended before I caused injury to any other person."
The 50 year old actor said "I disgraced myself and my family with my
behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease
of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific
relapse."
