It is official, Mel Gibson has been charged with misdemeanor drunken
driving. If convicted he could face six months in jail, but most
experts say he will get his license suspended. With all of the ruckus
about his statements during the arrest, many people may have forgotten
that he is suspected of breaking the law too.
Gibson faces another misdemeanor count because he had an open container
in the vehicle while driving. ITV reports that he had a bottle of
tequila with him. Sandi Gibbons, spokesperson for the district
attorney, said "The ball is now in his court whether he is going to ask
for a trial." The arraignment is set for September 28th.
According to the Associate Press, most first time misdemeanor drunken
driving offenders usually face minimal, if any, time behind bars.
