When you get ready to sell your home, you want to be sure that the real
estate agent who represents your property will do the best possible job.
You may need to interview a couple of agents or realties before making a
decision on which one should sell your property. Don’t hesitate to ask
questions or talk to several realtors before choosing one to sell your
home.
How do you know if a realtor will do a good job for you? Here are some
things to look for when choosing an agent.
1. Look for a good
communicator. This person should be able to explain complex terms
clearly. He or she should be readily available, and return telephone
calls within a reasonable amount of time.
You may even want to ask for the agent’s email address so you can shoot
him or her a quick question, if the need should arise. If the agent
seems uninterested in answering your questions, or is unable to explain
things to your satisfaction, chances are this person will not do the
best job in representing your house on the real estate market.
2. Check his or her experience. How long has this person been selling
houses? Does he or she like the job? Have any sales awards been reached?
Has the person been with the current realtor a year or longer, or does
this person seem to have jumped from one job to the next? How
knowledgeable is the agent about real estate in general for your area
and state? Is his or her license up to date?
3. How interested does the agent seem in your property? Does she ask a
lot of questions? Does he spend time carefully assessing your property
during a walk-through and a sit-down discussion about the home’s merits
and weaknesses? Can this agent offer suggestions about how to enhance
your property’s appearance or value? Does he or she have a sales plan
for marketing your home?
Don’t be in a hurry to go with the first agent you find in the yellow
pages. Get one who knows the business, is easy to talk with, and is
interested in selling your property. You’ll be glad you did.
