Biblical Creation vs. Creationism

Biblical Creation vs. Creationism

Painting of Adam and Eve

Most everyone around the world know little about what "creationism" is.  They may think that they want it taught in schools, but have no idea what the curriculum would be made of.  Therefore, consider the following facts.

Biblical Creation is the doctrine that God created this particular universe, starting with the planet Earth. That is all that can be said of it.  Biblical Creation should only be taught in an advanced "Bible Theory" class.

It is up to the geologist to determine "when" creation occurred, which is accepted as being 4.6 billion years ago.  Genesis does not tell us how God created the Earth.  Biblical Creation vs. Creationism

Mambo Website

Web Site design has gone through many changes over the decade and it appears that the database driven website is the newer iteration in this process.  There have been many non-database driven programs by various makers including Microsoft and Netscape.  Some of the more popular programs are FrontPage and Dreamweaver.

There are limitations to those popular programs and the next “big thing” is php driven sites using SQL as the database.  PHP (stands for Personal Home Page Tools) and is an open-source reflective programming language.  It was originally designed for dynamic web content and is mainly used for server-side applications. Changing Surfaces from Sticky to Slippery - New Technology

Georges Belfort

Researchers at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute have developed a surface that can be switched from sticky to slippery when exposed to light.  The scientists call these surfaces “optically switchable”.  The material’s surface characteristics are altered when exposed to ultra-violet light.

Scientists are using synthetic polymer membrane in a variety of applications.  They call this new science “bioseparation”.  Bioseparation is a filtering process of specific proteins from complex liquid mixtures of biological molecules.  The proteins usually stick to the membranes, clogging up their pores and severely limiting their performance.  Changing Surfaces from Sticky to Slippery Using Light - New Technology

MySpace Child Safety Concerns – A new website called Imbee allows Parents to supervise their Kids

imbee's website

As a parent you may feel compelled to lock away your children and not let them on the internet, but if you are willing to work with your child you might be able to use a new website called imbee (imbee.com) that allows parents to monitor their child’s blogs and posts and their friends they come in contact with online.

MySpace has become an extremely popular website for “social-networking” online; however there is a lot of information on this site that may be unwelcome to teens and young children.  Another downfall to MySpace and other sites is that anyone can search a user’s profile, however on imbee it allows only registered users to search the site.  MySpace Child Safety Concerns – A new website called Imbee allows Parents to supervise their Kids

Creationism - How Entropy challenges Evolution Theory

Evolution?

Few scientists have considered or pondered the full implications of the law of entropy upon the theory of evolution. And, as we shall see, entropy does occur in open systems such as our Earth.

The theory of evolution teaches that matter tends to evolve towards greater and greater complexity and order. We are so accustomed to seeing evolution of technology all about us (new cars, boats, ships, inventions, etc.) that we assume that nature must work the same way also. Of course, we forget that all those new gadgets and technology had a human designer behind them. Nature, however, doesn't work the same way.  Creationism - How Entropy challenges Evolution Theory

Viewsonic Flat Panel LCD Monitor

LCD computer monitors have come down in price over the past few years.  Most places will offer 19” LCD monitors for around $250, but they do go up in price from there.  There are a few features you want to consider including ms response time, resolution, view angle and tilt.  The better models have built in transformers, so you don’t have a box at the end of your power cable.

You can save money with LCD monitors.  Based on a 10 cent kilowatt hour, changing from a CRT (a standard cathode ray tube monitor) to a LCD (liquid crystal display monitor) will save you $21 a year in electricity.  This should be considered if you are waiting for the price to drop further on LCD monitors.  Will the price drop more than $21 this year?  LCD Flat Panel Display Monitors - Model Comparisons of Dot Pitch, TFT, and Contrast Ratings

Hydrogen Fuel – Sensor Node detects leaks may be used in Hydrogen Cars of the Future

Hydrogen Fuel – Sensor Node detects leaks may be used in Hydrogen Cars of the Future

Hydrogen Fuel Cell

Hydrogen fuel offers environmentally friendly benefits and could become a cost effective solution in the future.  Hydrogen gas is invisible, odorless and is highly explosive.  Safety concerns are one of the obstacles preventing consumers from using it as an alternative fuel source.

A research team from the University of Florida has developed a way to detect the hydrogen fuel inexpensively by setting an alarm off if a leak occurs.

The sensor would be able to detect hydrogen leaks and sound an alarm via wireless communication.  This sensor node would be able to use the power that comes from small vibrations, which would continually work without replacing batteries.  Cars, refrigerators, pumps, motors and any other motor that vibrates could use the sensing node without batteries.  Hydrogen Fuel – Sensor Node detects leaks may be used in Hydrogen Cars of the Future

Where Are All The Half-Evolved Dinosaurs?

Where Are All The Half-Evolved Dinosaurs?

Origins?
by B. G. Ranganathan

Millions of people are taught that the fossil record is proof of evolution. But, where are there fossils of half-evolved dinosaurs or any other creatures in the fossil record?

Even if evolution takes millions and millions of years, if evolution actually occurred we should see some stages of that evolution in the fossils. But, we don't find fossils of half-evolved fish, frogs, lizards, birds, dogs, cats, or anything else. Every species of plant or animal in the fossils is complete and fully formed.

Another problem is how could a partially-evolved plant or animal survive for millions of years while its basic organs and tissues were still evolving? How, for example, were animals breathing, eating, and reproducing while there respiratory, digestive, and reproductive organs were still supposedly evolving over millions and million and millions of years?  Where Are All The Half-Evolved Dinosaurs?

Search Engine Optimization - SEO and Website Marketing For Website Publishers - Copyright is Still Important - Timing Creates Page Rank

Search Engines

I think the Internet has changed our concept of what is important in copyright policy.  For instance, Google gives relevance to date posted.  In other words, you could steal a story from someone and post it elsewhere, but Google still gives the first article posted higher rank.  Initially, people tried to change the date on their webpage or the date that the article was posted, but Google quickly began to discount that date, but determined the date from the date Google picked found it.

It could actually benefit a newspaper to have articles posted elsewhere, even without a link.  If the story is about soccer, with the word soccer many times in it, the original page will gain a little more page rank if it is copied – compared to other different articles about soccer that were not copied.  Search Engine Optimization - SEO and Website Marketing For Website Publishers - Copyright is Still Important - Timing Creates Page Rank

Hurricane Season – Are the Storms Getting Severe because of Global Warming?

Hurricane

Hurricane season is just around the corner.  There has been concern that global warming may be causing the increase and severity of the hurricane storms.  One research project from the University of Virginia reported their view about hurricanes and global warming in the May 10th issue of the journal of Geophysical Research Letters.

The researchers studied the water temperatures as the hurricanes passed through to see if this was the cause of the increase in storms.  They found that warmer water temperatures were found in only one half of the storms over the last 25 years.  They believe that there are other factors contributing to the increased number of hurricanes.  Hurricane Season – Are the Storms Getting Severe because of Global Warming?

Now that gas prices are passing $3 per gallon, drivers are considering alternatives to save money.  Some people are considering moving closer to work, while others are looking into the purchase of a hybrid car.  Since the Federal government is offering tax credits, this might be the best year to buy a hybrid car.  Not all hybrids qualify for a tax credit, so make sure you buy a car that has the credit available.

The CBS News program 60 Minutes and NBC Dateline both ran stories about an alternative to regular gasoline.  Dan Rather mentioned that Brazil has been able to curtail much of their gas imports by adding ethanol to their gas.  Brazilian gas stations still offer straight gasoline, but the new blend E85 (85% ethanol) is now much cheaper.  Ethanol E85 Gas Powered Vehicles - Both 60 Minutes and Dateline Cover Story - E-85 Mixture Flex Car List - Corn and Sugar Cane Hybrids?

Juniper trees in Pakistan that are over 1,000 years old show that rainfall over the past century have been has been the wettest.  The scientists studied the trees ring growth to correspond the amount of rainfall each year brings.  On a dry year the trees would not have much growth and the ring would reflect this information.   The study was first presented in the current issue of the journal 'Nature' by scientists from the Swiss Research Institute WSL, the Potsdam Geo Research Centre, the Jülich Research Centre and the University of Bonn.

The scientists also measured the amount of oxygen absorbed in the wood.  They measured the isotopes found in the wood to determine the amount of humidity for that year.  Global Warming could be changing the Climate in Pakistan

As gas prices continue to rise, purchasers of new cars are looking a little closer at the hybrids.  Some areas around the country have seen the price of self-serve regular hit the three dollar mark, and above.  Analysts say the price hike is due to hurricanes Katrina and Rita, instability in Nigeria, and the addition of ethanol to the fuels.

All of the major networks including ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN have run stories on the high cost of gas, and new wave of hybrid cars becoming available.  The only problem is that dealers are selling out of these new cars faster than they are getting them in.  ABC News Nightline correspondent John Donvan interviewed some car salesman that say they are lucky to have one hybrid on the lot at any time.  The dealers may have hundreds of traditional gas-only cars, but only a small number of hybrids.  Hybrid Cars Becoming More Popular as Gas Prices Soar - Tax Credits Coupled with Higher Fuel Costs Make Hybrids In Demand

Power Averaging:

"Power Averaging", also referred to as "load averaging or load leveling", allows maximum power output of the prime mover to be reduced to that slightly greater than that needed to cruise on level terrain at maximum sustained velocity. This reduces prime mover (engine) mass and volume; offsetting the mass and volume of the required temporary storage device. Around the time Google announced “Big Daddy,” there was a new Googlebot roaming the web.  Since then I’ve heard stories from clients of websites and servers going down and previously unindexed content getting indexed.

I started digging into this and you’d be surprised at what I found out.

First, lets look at the timeline of events:

In Late September some astute spider watchers over at Webmasterworld spotted unique Googlebot activity.  In fact, it was in this thread that the bot was first reported on. It concerned some posters who thought that perhaps this could be regular users masquerading as the famous bot.  Could the New Google Spider be causing issues with websites?

I thought for this week I’d give a summary of some of the more interesting Search Engine Strategies sessions which are currently going on in New York City.

I was at SES as a speaker last year in New York and I have to say, there is a wealth of information there even if some of it is contradictory.  Not only that ,but you get to meet some amazing people and can even have one on one access with some of the search engine reps.  Overall, I found it to be a worthwhile experience.

This year, like many people, I wasn’t able to attend. However, I wanted to keep up with the news, so I found a great source of reports and updates.  I will summarize the most important sessions to the best of my ability.

In my opinion, one of the most crucial topics is Vertical Creep.  Vertical Creep in Search Results :: Should Organic Optimizers be Concerned?

Also, the top bar where the search box is became narrower.  To me this makes the page seem less “closed in” and more visually appealing.  I now feel as if I can trust the results more because they have more room.

I’ve also noticed that MSN has been playing with the display of the titles.  Before this change, they seemed to bold the entire title, as well as bolding terms which matched the search query in the snippet.  Website Design - Google, MSN, and Yahoo Ads look different in each Browser

Why The Red Shift Does Not Prove The Expansion Of The Universe

Red Shift Diagram nasa.gov

The work of Hubble and the observed red shifts were used to support the belief that the universe is apparently expanding. His work showed that the red shift had a linear dependence on distance. It was assumed that the red shift was due to the Doppler effect.

While Hubble measured red shifts as a function of measured distances, Hubble himself initially used the term "apparent velocity" in connection with the red shift. In turn, this was assumed to prove that the universe was expanding in all directions.

The work of Saul Perlmutter and others is cited to show that the expansion of the universe is apparently accelerating and thus introduced the need for dark energy. Why The Red Shift Does Not Prove The Expansion Of The Universe

Nielsen//NetRatings Media company compared Yahoo and Google paid search results and found that Google is still leading in the contextual advertising business, although  Yahoo has gained ground since August after launching their publisher network. December is a big month for paid search advertising because the “things” people are searching for pay better. For instance: an ad with the relevant keyword “iPod” will likely pay better than an ad for “politics”.

Dark Matter Energy is Hydrogen - Speed and Temperature Help Explains Pioneer Anomalies

Pioneer 11 launch

A new study may help lead to an explanation of the Pioneer 10 and 11 spacecraft anomalies.  The two crafts were launched in 1972 and 1973 respectively, and are now at the outskirts of the solar system.

The anomalies, sometimes called the Pioneer effect, refer to the observed deviation from expected trajectories of various unmanned spacecraft as they travel through the outer solar system. There is no universally accepted explanation for the phenomenon, but scientists have speculated that it could be from gas leakage.  An entirely new physics has also been considered – dark matter and energy.

Two Law Firms File Suit Against Apple Computer - iPod Nano Allegedly Defective in Lawsuit

iPod Nano

The Los Angeles based Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights (FTCR) is suing Apple Computer due to alleged “defective” iPod Nanos. The consumer group says “Apple must fix” the problem or give unhappy customers refunds.  In addition, FTCR claims Apple is refusing to give refunds to purchasers, while forcing others to pay $25 to get a “replacement” that is supposed to be free under the Apple warranty.

The group brought the lawsuit under the California consumer protection laws on behalf of iPod purchasers.  The suit alleges the screen can get scratched so “severely” that it becomes unreadable under normal use.  According to FTCR, the problems became apparent within a few weeks of the product’s launch, and Apple has acknowledged a problem.  Two Law Firms File Suit Against Apple Computer - iPod Nano Allegedly Defective in Lawsuit

Google Desktop

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) warned computer users to not use the Google Desktop feature called “Search Across Computers”.  According to the foundation, it makes personal data vulnerable to government subpoena, private litigants and hackers.

The EFF headline reads “Google Copies Your Hard Drive – Government Smiles in Anticipation”.  The new Search Across Computers feature stores copies of the user’s files including Word documents, PDF files, spreadsheets and more.

According to an EFF press release, staff attorney Kevin Bankston said “Coming on the heels of serious consumer concern about government snooping into Google's search logs, it's shocking that Google expects its users to now trust it with the contents of their personal computers.”  Privacy Advocates Warn Users about  Google Desktop - Electronic Frontier Foundation
