The South Beach Diet by Dr Arthur
Agatston, a cardiologist located in the Miami Beach Florida area, added
approximately 4,000 vegetarians to his diet website with meatless meal
plans and recipes. Low carb has been traditionally high in protein from
meat sources exclusively; however there are vegetarian alternatives for
the protein.
Which do you think has the largest
percentage of protein 1 large egg, 1 cup serving of pinto beans, or 1
cup of alfalfa sprouts? The serving of Alfalfa sprouts contain 5.1
grams (with 35% protein of composition being protein), the pinto beans
14 grams, while the egg contains just 6 grams of protein.
The South Beach Diet’s Dr. Agatston
developed a vegetarian plan long before his original South Beach diet
book was released. Following the popularity of the book, his website
followed up with online diet help. Now the vegetarians can join
online
too, with appropriate vegetarian diet plans.
The vegetarian side of the South
Beach Diet includes bean, soy products, legumes, and plenty of
Vegetables. They are allowed a limited amount of fruits and grains in
the later phases of the diet. Dieters are allowed to eat dairy and eggs,
so long as they follow the low-fat rule.
The first 2 weeks of The South Beach
Diet has restrictions in the amount of carbohydrates eaten. It is very
similarly structured to the Atkins diet’s induction phase, but The South
Beach Diet choices are low-fat protein servings with a few more
selections of vegetables. The greatest amount of weight is lost in the
first 2 weeks. In the second phase you slowly add back some of the
carbohydrates, although you can stay on this phase for as long as you
need to lose weight. The third phase is the maintenance phase where you
transition from a diet phase to a life long diet phase. You are allowed
to eat more carbohydrates again.
Vegetarians are as likely to be
overweight today, because of processed foods. Just because it is
vegetarian does not mean it is good for you, and many have gained extra
weight from eating the same processed foods like non-vegetarians. The
South Beach Diet, whether in the regular or unleaded version, is
intended as a life long commitment.
