Famous throughout the world the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove California has accomplished 50 years of ministry service.

The Crystal Cathedral is listed in the Reformed Church in America website www.rca.org,  and is part of this group of ministry.  The mission statement of the Reformed Church in America states, “The Reformed Church in America is a fellowship of congregations called by God and empowered by the Holy Spirit to be the very presence of Jesus Christ in the world.”

In 1955 Robert Shuller Sr. started the ministry by renting the Orange Drive-in Movie Theater and conducted services from the top of the concessions stand building. The Crystal Cathedral still carries on the tradition of a drive-in church with loud speakers outside in the parking lot for parishioner worship.

Well accomplished Architects, gold medal winner Philip Johnson and his partner John Burgee, designed the crystal cathedral which was completed in 1980. The building stands 128 feet high and 415 feet long. There are more than 10,000 windows held together with a white steel framework. Two 90 foot tall doors open electronically before each church service begins. Inside the church seats 2,890 persons, it has room for over 1,000 singers and musicians and can perform in 185 foot long chancel area.
